Ray Doyle was dichotomous. Sometimes he was quiet, compliant, reflective. Other times he was impulsive and domineering; he even dared to disobey Cowley.
He strode into the restroom, slamming the door behind him. "The bastard! The snake in the grass!"
"What?" Bodie looked up from the newspaper. "Who?"
"Me landlord. The contract he gave me is null and void! I'm homeless."
Bodie stared. "You didn't get it checked? You were a copper, Ray."
Doyle was also quick to calm. "Yeah, Bodie. I know. So," he said, as he draped himself over Bodie's chair. "Can I come and stay with you?"
