Then he remembered: multi-murderer Elmer Gratis had broken free and run amuck. He'd tried to stop him.
He heard his Captain's voice. "Thank God it's not a depressed fracture. Doc says he'll be okay. I'll introduce you. Lieutenant Theodopolis Kojak meet Officer Robert Crocker."
Bobby tried to sit up. A firm hand on his shoulder stopped him. Expensive aftershave mingled with tobacco; it was a heady mix.
"Guess the first thing I'd better teach you is how to look after yourself."
