When I was growing up my grandma used to make wonderful fudge (well she called it fudge). It was somewhat different from all other fudge I ever had when growing up and when grown up as it was slightly hard rather than soft and often almost gooey fudge which seemed to be the norm. Also, it wasn't as sickly sweet as fudge can often be ( Read more... )

But isn't it great that you can discover new things? I'm glad you finally found your grandmother's fudge! You must have been thrilled beyond words!

You know I think a lot of what my family called fudge was probably tablet - with a firmer and more grainy texture than bought fudge or some recipes. I would have to check the old books, but I definitely know what you're referring to!

Tablet! I've seen this on my trips to Edinburgh. Now I know I must try it. I'm glad you found it.

Now I hear there's a drink called Irn Bru, said to made from girders. . .

I've only had tablet in Scotland and was led to believe it was the only place where it could be found. I thought it was like a drier(?)fudge if that makes sense.

Happy eating!

It may be; to be honest I don't know. I shall have to ask some of my friends who live in England if they've come across it.

Drier is a good way of summing it up, actually. So yes, it does make sense.

Well done, you! I saw the tablet when I was there a few months ago but I never tried it. Next time I will!
