Wimbledon 2015 Day 12
Well I was fifty percent right, thus fifty percent wrong with my predictions yesterday *g* Serena Williams did win and won easily and decisively, it really wasn't a match at all which was a shame.
However, my favourite Agnieszka Radwanska lost *sighs* Her match with Garbine Muguruza was a good one, far better than the match between Serena and Maria with both ladies having their chances to win the match. In the end after three (for the most part) fiercely contested sets, Garbine's power did prevail as Aga seemed to run out of ideas, not to mention making a very strange and very costly challenge whereby had she not stopped play and challenged she would have won the point.
Ah, well these things happen. Garbine didn't seem, well not until she was a set and a break up at which point I think she started to think ahead and thus lost her focus and Aga got back into the match, troubled by the nerves one might have thought she would be feeling playing in her first ever grand slam semi. I can only hope that continues tomorrow.
Jamie Murray and John Peers won their men's doubles semi and so we have at least one Murray brother into a Wimbledon final. I'm hoping by the end of today there will be two.
Today is men's semi finals day, which I am really looking forward to. I think (and hope) we will get two excellent and hard fought matches with the better man in each match coming through in the end.
Andy and Roger's match should be really close. Roger is number two in the world and Andy number three and their head to head is jolly close, Roger with 12 wins over Andy's 11. Andy won their last meeting on grass - the Olympics in 2012 where he won, whereas Roger has won their last couple of meetings including the one at the O2 last November where he thrashed Andy. It has the potential to be a long match, five close sets, and could go on fairly late into the evening. Assuming of course that both men behave *g*
Novak and Richard Gasquet's match on paper shouldn't be anywhere near as close. Novak is the world number one, whereas Richard is number 20 and their head to head is eleven : one in Novak's favour. However, Gasquet does love grass and does play extremely well on it and did have that extremely good win over Stan on Wednesday. Thus, it could easily be over in three or go all the way to five. So much will depend, I believe, on Gasquet - the outcome really is in his hands.
