3. Post the names of five fictional characters whose names begin with that letter, and your thoughts on each. The characters can be from books, movies, or TV shows.
A couple of weeks ago ::coughs:: the lovely
caffyolay gave me 'G' and it's taken me this long to get around to do it - not because I hadn't got the characters, but because of the alphabet meme and a certain pair of Victorian gentlemen *g* However, finally, I am going to do it.
I decided not to go with the 'obvious' one - Gibbs - as I had already used him when
aries11 gave me 'J'. So there are five other 'G's behind the cut.
George Cowley
The Controller of CI5 (The Professionals) the man who has to keep the likes of Bodie and Doyle under control and deal with the Minister's demands and suggestions - and balance the two. Cowley is a wonderful character, indeed when it comes down to it I think he is my favourite Pros character, just, even more so than Bodie and Doyle. He's not just a paper-pushing Controller, he's very hands on. He really is a superb character.
George Gideon (do I get extra points for this one as both his names begin with 'G'?)
Commander George Gideon (know as Gee-Gee to colleagues and crooks alike) of Scotland Yard was the creation of the novel writer John Creasey (writing a J J Marric) who wrote more than twenty novels. There was also a twenty-six part TV series staring John Gregson. Gideon is a very well liked and respected copper, well built, but with a soft voice, a calm manner (little if anything fazes him) and superb memory and the ability to handle a staggering work force and still be a husband and father. Gideon is a wonderful character and I'd recommend the books and the TV series to anyone).
Rupert Giles
From Buffyverse. Giles is the very British school librarian and Buffy's watcher, but he's far more than just a watcher, he's very hands on and allows Buffy's friends to help out too. He gets very close to Buffy, too close in the end at least as far as the Watchers' Council believe. They sack him as her Watcher when he intervenes in a test she has to undergo, because he can't stand by and see her put through it. He loves her like a father and that isn't any good to the council. Nonetheless, he stays on at the school 'helping' and is eventually reinstated as her Watcher. He is my favourite character from Buffy - he's wonderful, he really is.
Gerry Standing
Ex-Detective Sergeant Gerry Standing from New Tricks is, like all the New Ticks team a great character. Something of a Jack-the-lad, he's been married three times and has four daughters and despite the failure of his marriages he and 'his women' often get together and he is pretty much hen-pecked. He's nicknames 'Last Man Standing' as he was the only member of the then squad who refused to take back-handers from a gangster. He has little if any time for authority, is very much old-school in his manner of handling crimes, but he gets results and when it comes down to it, you won't find anyone more loyal than Gerry. I think he's a wonderful character.
George O'Malley
Dr. George O'Malley from Grey's Anatomy played by T R. Knight is one of the main group of doctors whom we first meet as Interns. He left the show after the first five seasons. George is/was the favourite character for a lot of people. However, whereas I liked him, he never was a favourite of mine, in fact he was probably my least favourite of the 'gang'.
