Two cats short

My girls and gimmick mean the world to me. I love them very dearly. So it absolutely breaks my heart when one of them is sick. Sheba (13yr old) is in the beginning stages of renal failure, there is nothing that can be done to really fix it. All you can do is maintain it. She's on the best food for it and has been thriving. Snoerie (14 yr old) has been diagnosed with mega-colon (chronic constipation). There is medication she is on and soon to be a diet change to help her. Neither of these things are really that big of shock considering their age. All three of them were rescue babies.

Sheba Marie's Story:

I had been working at Banfield for about two months when I received a call from a guy asking if we were a no kill vet. There is no such thing as a no kill vet, however some vets (such as our clinic) will not euthanize a healthy pet. He was annoyed because his cat was peeing on the floor and he wanted it put down. He refused to even consider medical problems that the cat might be facing and promptly hung up on me. The next day the same guy came up to my counter and asked if we were a no kill vet. I asked him what the problem with his cat was and he stated the same thing he had the day before, cat peeing on the floor, don't give a damn if it has medical problems, want it put down. I asked him if he would be willing to sign the cat over to me. I was more than willing to get the cat checked out, get it medical treatment (if it needed any) and give it to a good home. He agreed to bring the cat to me.

Now when he brought the cat to me, he told me that it was a male named psycho who was around 7-8 years of age. He also brought his wife, who amazingly was a very nice person and was very sad to see "him" go but very happy that she didn't have to put "him" down.

Five minutes after they leave and I take the cat back to the treatment room, we find out that not only is she a girl, but she's closer to 13 years old! Older cats are the hardest to find homes for because of their age people seem to think that they are too set in their ways. It's not true, but people are stupid. So I decided that she was just going to have to settle for being my baby. She has not only adapted to with me and my boyfriend, she has also adapted to living with two other cats.

Snoerie Ann's Story:

Snoerie was a very unexpected surprise. I had called into work to check on a cat and was delivered with the bad news that said cat had to be put to sleep, which caused me to start crying in Meryn's. Leesa, a very kind hearted cat lover, also informed me that they had someone come in about authorizing a cat because they were going to Iraq and where unable to find her a home. Since I was crying over bud's death, Matt gave in and let me take her home the next day. She lived in our bathroom sink for 6 months, but since then she has really opened up and is a very sweet kitten. Considering her age she is in pretty good health too (other than the mega-colon). Excellent bld wrk every time!

Gimmick F'Ns Story:

While walking back for Taco Bell (I think) along Pac Ave, Matt and I spotted a girl who seemed to be stroking her breast while waiting for the bus. ~_o I couldn't help but wonder why she would be stroking her breast. So as we got closer I took a look and there he was. The cutest little orange tabby baby. So I stopped and asked if I could pet him. She said that she had gotten him from Saar's Market and that she couldn't keep him because her mom was allergic to cats. Matt was the one who said Yes. It was Matt who said that we could have him. I didn't ask, I didn't even look pleadingly at him. He said yes under his own free will. So little baby gimmick rode in my cleavage for warmth all the way home. He was 5 weeks when we got him and I really wish I had been able to get a picture of him when he was that little =(

So that is how I came to be two cats short of a crazy cat lady.
