Jake Vs Speed Racer

So yes, as we all know Iron Man is awesome, I am in-fact going to see it a second time sometime this week. However the other release I was feverily awaiting was Speed Racer. Having loved the cartoon as a kid, the chance to see the Mach Five on the big screen held such promise for me. The only problem I could see, was that it was being written and directed by, The Wachoashki Bro's of Matrix fame. Whilst I do like The Matrix, it suffers from dialouge fluffing, where to much information is cramed verbally and slows the film down, and when you film is entitle "SPEED Racer" slowing down is something you want to avoid. It also doesn't help when the dialouge itself isn't very good.

The film itself, I stated when I saw the first trailers, would either be a fun, nonsense film, which you could just sit back watch the pretty cars and explosions and enjoy without too much worry over who the drivers were and what motivated them, or it would be rubbish. I am proud to report, the film falls into the first catagory. John Goodman as Pops is brilliant. The fight and race sequences are superb as you would expect from the lads who gave us The Matrix and the film reminds you of being a kid and watching Saturday morning cartoons. One thing that made me smile is at one point in the background is the "Johnny Quest theme tune".

All in all the film was highly enjoyable, for me a seasoned fan and for Toya, who had never even heard of Speed Racer, she commented that it was cheesy, and silly.... but a good film.

speed racer, review, film, awesome
