Back to school

Somehow, the summer came and went. I never found a temp job, and instead, I spent most of my days sleeping in, going to the gym, and meeting up with Will after work for such activities as cooking, enjoying the various events and areas the city has to offer, and general laziness. In July, I decided that I wanted to join an orchestra because I missed playing my violin, so I began practicing for my audition, which will take place next Tuesday. In August, my family and I piled into the minivan and drove to Maine for the first time in 7 years. I also got to visit ALex in Boston for her birthday, which was nice. Ultimately, it was a great summer, although I didn't get to do everything that I wanted to do, probably due to the fact that I got paid to do nothing, which quickly made me lazy and complacent.

Yet, I now find myself surprisingly ready to start the new year, despite its rather disconcerting uncertainty. I found out yesterday that I will now be teaching Science in addition to Social Studies; however, I have not yet received any sort of schedule, nor do I even know which classes I'm going to be teaching. I also don't have much in the way of supplies other than what I hoarded at the end of last year during the supply drought. There are also a lot of changes this year: W. got transferred to the main site which is good, L. is AWOL which is upsetting, N. is unit coordinator which is good and bad, our day starts and ends earlier which I guess is also good, and apparently the kids have to wear uniforms now which I don't really care about. I'm surprised that the admin hasn't gotten us organized yet, but I'm also surprised at how calm I am in spite of all of this. I decided to plan whatever I can, buy whatever I can afford, focus on conveying the important stuff to my students in the first week, and the rest will eventually work itself out.

I'm not the happiest girl right now, but I'm confident and ready for the challenge.
