I never thought this would happen.
I thought we lived in the 21st century.
I thought we already had a civil rights movement; I thought people were more open-minded today as a result.
I thought that all the work I've done for equal rights made a difference.
I thought we were supposed to be a state that was ahead of its time.
I thought we, as a nation, believed that all men are created equal, and deserve to be treated as such.
I thought we would be fair.
I thought we would do what's right.
I guess I thought wrong.
I guess the thing to do now is wait to see what happens, and hope that we realize what a mistake we've made, and hope that we can undo this giant step backwards for equal rights.
And make our voices heard.
I've already spoken to several people who voted "yes," and now regret it. This is what happens when people don't educate themselves before they vote. The wording on the ballot was as I feared...vague, and incomplete.
There is still hope. Disagree with that statement if you will, but I still have hope, no matter how sad and frustrated I may feel.
I know I won't be giving up, or shutting up.
Are you with me?
