Rammstein in Leipzig 2011 (I)

So, yeah, we got to see them this time too. Due to all sorts of reasons I haven't been following what's going on lately in the R+ dept., band and fandom. Had no idea what will be this gig about, I mean didn't read any reports from previous shows, etc. So, I guess, the surprise was even bigger, a pleasant surprise that is.

This is about a "Best of ..." and it really manages to be that, not only as in music, also as show too. Their playlist included most famous/loved songs from all the albums, a lot of "oldies, but goldies" too. The show included old stuff they did during certain songs (see "Mein Teil"), but also new stuff, with awesome ideas, and re-invention of some old stuff. The playlist included some of my all time favs, like "Wollt Ihr Das Bett In Flammen Sehen?" and "Asche Zu Asche", but also "Sonne", "Du Hast", "Du Riechst So Gut" , "Likns 2, 3, 4" and, awesome surprise, "Bück Dich". They sang also "Mann Gegen Mann", "Amerika", "Haifisch", "Mutter", "Ich Will", "Feuer Frei", "Ohne Dich" and, of course "Engel". They ended, though with "Pussy", which seems to complete the circle, since it's all (the album, the tour, etc) about Germany and being German. I will bring more details about the show as I post the pics.

Click on the pics if you want to see them bigger.

After the opener band and the usual break, the lights went out. This music started, and, with it, this bridge was lighten and started to move slowly downwards. The construction of this bridge is very "steam punk-ish" with these oxygen tanks and pipes "breathing out" steam.
In the mean time, in the center of the concert hall there were these lights, coming from the floor and pointing toward the ceiling.

As the bridge was lowered from the ceiling, this platform emerged, on the platform the guys were standing. Olli had a torch in his hand, Till was carrying the Rammstein flag, while Flake, the Saxony flag.

When the bridge got to the level of the platform, the guys crossed it to get to the stage.

They ccrossed the bridge one by one, and, as they were arriving on the stage, they would wait there for the others.

They waited until the line was complete.

Then, they started the show, with "Sonne".

This time I didn't have an optimal position, so I could take pics to mostly what was going on on the part of the stage in front of me, which means a load of pics of Richard, some of Till and Flake.

The stage set was, as usual, sort of layered, with back-grounds behind back-grounds. They had lights shaped as the Rammstein cross, mics that were coming up and going down through the floor at one push with the foot (I saw Richard doing that a lot of times) and lots of other cool stuff.

This first back-ground represented a giant spider, actually, but from where I was I didn't realize that, it seemed like only a very cool texture.

Don't even think to ask me about it. I saw this "ornament" on Richard's shoulders only when I downloaded the pics.

While Olli's outfit seems like inspired from the outfit of a hangman in the Middle Ages, Till's seems to have been inspired by a samurai's one. Especially with that hair. The coat made me think of a Japanese armour coat.

And a closer look.

Richard - very implied in the show.

Another thing - they were surprisingly very interactive with the crowd. Especially Till. He let the crowd sing during so many songs, like "Du Hast" and "Ich Will".

Till in all his greatness.

During "Wollt Ihr...", with the lights shaped in the form of the R+ cross. The lights were sliding up and down during different songs.

And a lot of fireworks, of course. Besides the R+ cross shaped lights, they had these round ones, that resembled the coils from a huge crazy flying machine.

The stage in flames, as usual.

"Asche...

"...zu..."

"... asche".

New back-ground for the stage. I found it incredibly cool, as the lights were projected through these structures creating a really great effect.

The crowd was singing during "Feuer Frei".

I love this part, with the face-flame-throwers.

Till, with closed eyes, enjoying the moment.

I think this was during "Mutter".

And with this image I stop here, the rest I'll post tomorrow.
