HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE

Apr 04, 2010 22:07

So, how did you spend your Easter?
Today we went to the Medieval Fair in Freital, a town close to Dresden.

Even if the entry fee wasn't very cheap, there were lots of people.

It's actually an event where people come with their families, with the children. For children, among other things, pny rides.

At the entry our tickets gets checked by the guard, by "stabbing" them with this long spear he had.

The leather and fur stand. The fair was held in the yard of the castle in Freital. Here there's a market where there are sold items specific to the Midle Ages, as well as food more or less specific to the time and to the region. Drinks as well, served in animal horns or ceramic cups.

Many stands dedicated to involving children in different activities. Like here, target shooting with the bow and arrow.

The merchands were dressed according to the Middle Ages latest fashion, but there also fans dressed like that too. They even had knights. Well, these ones wearing jeans, but never the less...

The smith, offering not only beautiful (and expensive) items to sale, but also the spectacle of him at work.

A merry go round for children, powered by human strength, namely that guy spinning the wheel.

The people and the costumes were really worth the money.

A little stage was set, where thematical performances were taking place.

The wood master at work.

A lot of suvenirs for children.

This woman must be the oldest participant. All respect for her!

The surgeon's "cabinet".

In the times when the humans didn`t have to fight their way through the busy supermarkets, get shoved, pushed and trampled under feet by other fellow buyers, the food was obtained by hunting different animals and birds. And for hunting, humans relayed on the precious help of such birds.

Don't know what they hunted with the owl, but it's just awesome.

And he doesn't have to turn his whole body to see what's going on behind him.

Something to remind us in which year we actually are.

Again for children, making jewelry.

Making wool and yarns.

Face painting patterns.

There had to be goats too.

Painted Easter eggs.

Happy Easter!

We found a chocolate egg too!

Preparing the hot drinks.

Juggling for children.

More costumes.

The tower of the castle in Freital. It is actually very small, resembling rather a large villa.

At the stand of dagger throwing.

Learning how to throw the dagger.

In the meantime the act on the stage changed.

Children posing with the knights.

At the smith's stand didn't have a chastity belt. Instead they had an offer for Xena the warrior woman.

Lampions made of paper and real leafs.

At the glass stand.

And a witch entertaining the children with her mice.

The mice wanted to be featured too.

We couldn't help not to buy some suvenirs either. The are made of bronze.

BTW, this is Gustl, Gaby's new acquisition. We didn't buy him today, but 2 days ago, in the Czeck markets.

And since evryone got something, Wolfie has her own Easter pressie.

It's  a little tunnel made of tent fabric and makes sounds like a plastic bag. What could a cat ask for more!!!

Even if in the beginning she was completely ignoring it, later on it proved to be a real succes.

Sometimes is only a cylinder with tail.

But there's always a kitty coming out of it. :P
