During the day one cannot see much or anything from the volcano's activity, mostly because usually the top is surrounded by clouds. So, there've been developed other activities so the tourists wouldn't get bored during the day. It's an area with lots of thermal springs, so of course there are luxurious spas built there (and while the prices are not outrageous, they are meant for all the Americans with money coming there). Also, there are lots of parks and such in the woods where one can climb on ropes or walk over hanging bridges, to see the forest and the animals. We decided to go to the hanging bridges.
Many there know English. Yet, sometimes, they make mistakes. Even on official stuff :P
The road in La Fortuna, the little town near Arenal where we stayed. It is called La Fortuna, because when the volcano started to erupt, the lava went on the other side of the mountain, sparring the town, so the people there said it had luck, therefor the name.
The road around the volcano. At night, in the forest, we could see fireflies and there are also these insects (I assume) that make a sound as if someone would play with empty bottles, something like some bells.
The lake near the volcano.
Near the lake.
The lake is huge and there are also crocodiles, if I remember right. I didn't see any, but there was a warning sign.
In a souvenirs shop, spotted this insect. It was for real, it was moving, but looked as if made of metal.
The volcano, hiding its peak under clouds.
So, the hanging bridges. The big ones looked like that, and were stretched above the tops of the trees, at different altitudes.
Trees with strange roots conquering the narrow trails.
A lizard looking as if covered in velvet.
Looking down from the bridge.
Liane.
The rain forest and the little river.
Some weird fruits.
The bridges from underneath. They were very flexible, and shake at each movement, but they also were very solid.
The waterfall.
