Save the Texas Prairie Chicken!

I neglect the old lj quite a bit. Pity, because I like it here. Might be partially because no one reads me. But that shouldn't matter. I think it's mostly because of OD. Though it isn't as popular as lj or myspace, it's my favorite blog-type place. Yes. I find it really odd that I've been there for nearly 7 years. One of the few constants in my life.

I'm nervous about the next few months. Applying to vet school = terrifying. I'm only applying to one school and I don't have a backup plan. If I don't make it I'll apply again for the following year and do some more work with animals in between. But that doesn't really seem like a backup plan. Erg.

Speaking of animal work, I got a volunteer position at the MN Wildlife Rehabilitation Center! Squee! I really enjoyed my time there working in the mammal nursery a few years ago. I'm on the Animal Care Crew, now, so I'll be doing a lot more. It should be a lot of fun! Sometimes I wonder if it's abnormal how much I enjoy cleaning up animal poop. Meh, who cares, right? It won't be anywhere near as hard as the zoo (which I miss with all my heart. Oh, tamandua, my love, I cannot bear to live without you!) as it's only once a week for 9+ months. I'll get to work with some many different animals, though! I'm so excited!!

Umm...school is boring. Tedious and rather easy. I never thought I'd be complaining about school being too easy, but apparently I need to be challenged or somesuch nonsense. I do enjoy microbiology even though it is a lot of review from cell bio. Lab is fun. I'll take any excuse to play with a micropipetter. Honors is interesting and fun at times. We're reading a lot of excellent books and plays. The science part isn't so great as it's all stuff I've learned before in 2 to 3 other classes. My English writing class is excruciatingly boring. Believe me, I would not be taking it if it wasn't recommended for vet school. My professor is a sharp woman who should be teaching a different class. She's a scholar of British literature, not writing mechanics. I feel like she's bored too. Pity.

Next year is ridiculous. Only 2 actual classes in the fall: biochemistry and physics. Ugh. I find it somewhat ironic that I'm taking biochem before Aaron even though he's the biochem major. Huh. Then I'm also doing my senior honors project which I'm kind of dreading and kind of looking forward to. Hopefully what I want to do gets approved. And hopefully I can arrange an e-mail interview with Robin McKinley. Twould be awesome.
