DPS vs. House / Gun Seller vs. House

I love both Dead Poets Society and The Gun Seller, and I was struck by how many weird similarities they bore to "House."  Check these out:

DPS (starring RSL) vs. "House"

There is a Cameron (not the most common name) in both shows.

In DPS, Neil mentions how Mr. Keating was "Cambridge-bound."  Hugh Laurie went to Cambridge.

The boys in DPS also have oaring as their sport.  (The movie cut a scene that elaborated on this more.)  Hugh Laurie was known as a fairly good oarsman in his college days.

There's the "no shit, Sherlock" line in DPS as the boys are planning their secret trip to the old Indian caves.  "House," obviously, is riddled with references to the famous detective.

In DPS, Neil Perry is studying to become a doctor.

In Hugh Laurie's 1996 book The Gun Seller, there are also some interesting similarities between it and "House."  For example:

Thomas Lang, the main character in Gun Seller, has the same childishly snarky wit that House does.

Both have a flippant disregard for authority figures (Lang with O'Neal in Ministry of Defense; House with Vogler...and plenty of others.)

Both ride motorcyles.  (Well, write what you know, right?)  ; )

Both have a best friend who acts as their conscience and is Jewish.

Both suffer injuries to their right legs.

Both have women-troubles.  ("I've been left by women I loved," Lang narrates in chapter three.  House obviously has the Stacy issue.)

In The Gun Seller, one of the chapters is headed by a quote from Mick Jagger.  House likes the Rolling Stones.
