Okay, I've finally figured out part of the problem is that Hugh doesn't like to talk his problems any more then House does. And Bobby apparently is trying. (Why does it seem like people easily fit into the characters they portray on tv?) Anyhow I loved this chapter. No bribes I swear. The bumps in the rode will come and go I know. At least Robert is trying. I love how Hugh is miffed about the mention of NY. Just curious, what does Robert want? (Yes I am that much of a ditz.)
HL and House are more tight-lipped about their problems, yes, but for different reasons. House does it because he's selfish, self-sabotaging, and in denial; and Hugh b/c he sees himself as a burden and is trying too hard NOT to affect people around him...and yeah, he's in denial, too I suppose.
There will be some strong differences between HL/RSL and H/W that will be used later on as well.
Oh you're not a ditz at all. :) It's still pretty vague up to this point, and of course the POV is biased which makes it harder to get a handle on RSL. His motives and wants will come to light in time. You and HL are in the same boat--deciding if RSL is trying for them both, for Hugh, or for himself. But I think it's very safe to say that Robert is dealing with a lot of issues on his side too. I am a big fan of reader interpretation, so I don't want to influence you either way. Read into it what you want to. :D It'll be clear in the end.
*Laughs* I'm in trouble then, I like to get to answer just as much as House does. Patience is not my virtue, but I'll do my best.
I love Hugh's personality, it is completely different then House but they react in similar ways at times for different reasons. *laughs and grins* And you're right it is hard to get a grasp on RSL. Makes me even more curious about him.
It wasn’t a question of trust for Hugh. There were simply issues that were too knitted into one’s personal life that became irreverent and belittling to discuss aloud. I think here you captured perfectly how a lot of people would feel about a therapist. At least, that's how I would feel. And I loved also the first part, what Hugh thinks about the sex, and being the bottom in particular. Very well done!
Just one little thing: Hugh's minor role was in Sense and Sensibility, not in Pride and Prejudice. Too many Austen books and movies, I know! I happen to be a fan of both, that's why I noticed. :)
Thanks for catching that Sense and Sensibility thing! Whoops. I even just recently watched the movie with a friend, how could I forget? (You're right: Too much Jane Austen.) :)
Glad you enjoyed this update. I thought a glimpse into HL's therapy would be a nice excuse to delve more into his head for a chapter. I went to see a psych for a couple weeks when I was going through a rough time about three, four years ago, so I thought that would be interesting to explore in a fictional realm, too. It was very much the same thing as HL sees, I think: Going is definitely pro-active and valuable; but it's not like a one-stop answer to all your problems. Some things you just have to work out for yourself within yourself.
Again, thanks for commenting and the edit! Much appreciated. :)
Just wanted to let you know how much I love this series. I never ever liked RPS before, but this is so tasteful and well done I can't help but enjoy it immensely. Please continue and I look forward to more.
"Tasteful" is such a huge compliment, thank you. There's a very narrow line you have to toe in RPS, I think, when writing it. I wouldn't write smut for smut's sake, for example. The universe should be deeper and more involved than that to do it justice. But of course that's just imo, what I'd rather write. I am very happy to hear other's approval, though, it's great to know.
Thank you! I'm very relieved to know the characterizations are still IC--I've been writing these two for almost a year now, and I can only hope they grow and develop instead of staling.
All I can say about the ending is that it will be appropriate and hopefully that in turn will be satisfying. *seals lips*

Hee. Thanks for updating insanely early. (And isn't it cute when pets sleep on your feet? My cat does that sometimes too.)

I love when pets keep company like that. It's like having a fun pair of sneakers...that, uh, drool occasionally. ;)
