Summary: me_challenge drabble from the Wednesday Insanity post. The prompt was, 'There And Back Again.'
"What do you mean you never read it?!"
Joker held up is hands in defense. "Didn't read much. I only ever got through this first couple pages of this first book. The extranet told me what I needed to pass those reading comprehension classes".
Shepard look indignantly at him. "I can't believe you! Its a great story!"
"Yeah, whatever you say commander." He turned his chair back toward his console. After a moment he spoke up, "So how did it end?"
Typical, wanting to know the ending without have to put forth the effort of reading to find out.
"Well the main character couldn't complete his task at the end and almost dies. Turns out his good friend ended up saving him. The dark lord was defeated and everyone lived happily ever after" she said sarcastically
Joker scoffed. "What a wimpy hero. Like a little ring was that big of a deal. See? Now no reason to read thousands of pages when its just summed up nicely in a sentence."
Shepard leaded against the top of this chair staring out into space. "Frodo wouldn't have gotten far without Sam." She said softly.
"What Commander?"
"Nothing. Next time you're off shift I'm requiring you to read it. I'm sure EDI can help you commandeer a copy."
EDIs holographic interface flickered on, "Downloading now Commander."
"Traitor."
**A week later**
"So Commander I have a question about that book. How come they just didn't fly to that mountain and drop the ring in the fire? Wouldn't it have been faster?"
