I also took the liberty of e-mailing Lisa. With any luck, she'll try to contact you in the near future.
I had an appointment with my psychologist today, and brought this subject up to her. She had some advice for me to pass on to you in regards to legal action:
1) Don't try to make a case out of your mother being dismissed despite having breathing trouble. Apparently that's pretty commonplace. Instead, focus on the fact that they discharged her before she was capable of getting to the bathroom under her own power. That is what the hospital should not have done, and a legitimate malpractice suit can be made concerning that action.
2) Do not try to get a lawyer from either the same community or the same county as the hospital. Lots of professions such as hospitals and law offices and whatnot in the same community/county are in one big, unofficial fraternity, and trying to get a lawyer from that area to take a case against the local hospital will end in failure. Instead, get a lawyer from elsewhere. Based on where you live, I would recommend going to Annapolis, D.C., or Richmond.
Again, I'm really sorry to hear about your mother.
