Sometimes you know you're around history being made

I didn't get to sit with Neenos and Bryn (his lovely g/f) but I went with Michelle, my cube neighbor, and her husband to the Barack Obama speech at the Coliseum. I thought it'd be a pep rally with some nice talks.

And it was a pep rally, don't get me wrong, but it was breathtaking. Sen. Obama is an electrifying orator and I hate Hollywood for making "electrifying" sound like a cliche b/c that is the only adjective worth saying for it. He spoke for a long time and I was nearly brought to tears at points. I've never felt so inspired and uplifted by a politician in my life. Or ever, come to think of it. But I now know what people meant about hearing inspiring politicians speak, that it felt like their lives were changed. I really want to hope and believe that he's the best our country has to offer, and I hope to goodness he gets the Demo. nomination. I've really never given a darn before as a native Washingtonian, but I really believe he can move this country to a better place.

I think my favorite part was when he kept saying that it was okay to hope, and it wasn't naive to ever hope for things, but that we as a country must first hope and then follow it with action to make those hopes come to pass. And deep down inside my cynical shell, I hope every day. I'm a closeted optimist. A better world for me, my husband, my friends, and little baby What's-His-Name.
