Christmas Lyrics

Am listening to the album "A Very Special Christmas 3" these days. Some songs on it are dumb (it's not strange to skip songs about Christmas when Snopp Dogg refers to Santa as the Man who should be brought down), but others I really like:

"So I'm told, so the story goes
The people He knew were
Less than golden hearted
Gamblers and Robbers
Drinkers and Jokers, all soul searchers
Like you and me
Like you and me" - Dave Matthews Band, "Christmas Song"

"Christmas is now drawing near at hand
Come serve the Lord and be at His command
And God a portion for you will provide
And give a blessing to your soul besides...
So proud and lofty do some people go
Dressing themselves like players in the show
They patch and paint and dress with idle stuff
As if God had not made them fine enough" - "Christmas Draws Near At Hand" as sung by Steve Winwood

"O holy night the stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Savior's birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth
A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new glorious morn..." - "O Holy Night," as sung by Tracy Chapman (my favorite
on the album)

Also there's a really cool, eerie version of Patti Smith singing "We Three Kings" on it where in between song verses she reads scripture from Luke. Creepy, but cool.

faith, christmas
