From Pres. Spencer W. Kimball

Jul 17, 2006 15:23

"It is interesting to note that most of us have a tendency to want to ape the ways of our neighbor, in styles or curricula or universities...We seem reluctant to establish our own standards, make our own styles, follow our own patterns which are based on dignity, comfort and propriety."

President Kimball gave this talk a good time ago (as you might guess as he is dead now) but it's still relevant. How often do we attempt to conform to an societal ideal or a fad rather than doing what we think is the right thing by the way we look and/or act? I'm not even claiming I'm immune, despite my yen to be Myself at all times. It's an interesting thing to ponder.

This brought to you by a conversation between James Badger and I concerning Dumb Things Some People Do To Be Like Everyone Else.

1 Sam. 16: 7: "...for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart."
