Author’s Notes: I read
eliyes's post (
here) on some old issues of X-Force, and finally learned the absolute truth of Shatterstar's wife, and how he tells Rictor. This is a very short little piece on how exactly Julio reacts to that news.
And also, tell you about... my wife.
My wife.
Julio stared at Shatterstar disbelievingly. He couldn't have just said the word "wife," he couldn't have. There was no way Shatterstar was married. Married! Julio started laughing.
"What is so funny?" 'Star demanded.
"Good one, 'Star," Julio snorted, starting the car and backing out of the parking space. He must have spent the whole day thinking up that one.
"Well, it was not a very good marriage, I do not think, compared to your earth marriages," he said thoughtfully.
Julio gaped. He almost hit the curb. "You were really married? When the hell was this?!"
"On Mojoworld."
He glowered at the steering wheel. He wasn't sure why it bothered him, and he wasn't about to examine that feeling any more closely, but he continued to clench the steering wheel until his knuckles went white. "So, got any kids?" he asked through gritted teeth.
"I would not know." Shatterstar shrugged. "I never met her. It is likely that the Spineless Ones used our genetic material to produce-"
"Wait, whoah, back up. You never met your wife?"
"No," 'Star replied calmly. "We were not married according to your customs, Rictor. The Spineless Ones merely arranged that our genetic information would be passed down together, in order to create a new stock of warriors. I never knew my wife. Only her name. Windsong."
Julio slowly released the breath he hadn't known he'd been holding. "Well. That's… that's news. Wow."
"I also saw Adam X today."
"You WHAT?!"
