Why the music industry sucks, by Dan Treadway *aka Dan of the Dead*

This was originally a comment I tried to post on britts blog about his article that he wrote that didnt accept the comment but I would still like to share with everyone else out there.

Heres my opinion that I would like to express. Music this day and age SUCKS! Since I got into a car wreck, I started listening to the radio more and more lately. I came to this conclusion because most of the stations in Houston are owned by clear channel. Clear channel is paid by both the mainstream record industry and advertisements, and every now and then from the concerts they try to promote. And thus they put out all the garbage from the mainstream record industry. Right now stations like 94.5 is trying to force feed the alternative rock audience with crappy emo bands such as My Chemical Romance and The Used. I also feel that Music is going down the crapper in rapid speed with more and more bands becoming straight edge, mostly emo bands again emo sucks, and rap becoming more and more say anything with a cool beat equals money (forumalized or manufactured or whatever word you wanna use) eventhough it sucks ass and will never be original like public enemy and most underground artists like aesop rock. Whatever happend to the old days (I mean anything before 2002) where music was actually good and more of a mixed bag instead of manufactured record label this sell out sell out that? And about straight edge, dont get me wrong, I love minor threat and fugazi who are straight edge, but they were original (same singer in both bands) and wernt subject to commercialism like the ones currently playing on the radio right now. Ive been listening to 93.7 and 106.9 alot lately, they are the "classic rock / 80's" station, the bands they play on the stations are very very very drug (mostly pot or coke) oriented and influenced, especially with the bad ass guitar solos (which is why I love Guitar Hero so much, cuz of the bad ass bands in it), and thus why I came to a theory that the less drug oriented and more mainstream the bands (mostly emo bands) become, the more they suck and you cant listen to when your driving home stoned and just wanna change the station to a classic rock or 80's poppy station. By that is my 2 cents about how I feel with the current situation of the music industry.

1 more thing I wanna add. Since when was wearing eyeliner and looking goth ever considered emo?
