Discipline

Did everyone run and hide when they read the title "Discipline"???

Discipline is not meant to be an awful thing, at least not when it is through the Lord our God. God is compassionate and kind. He is our Father in Heaven. He wants the best for us. He does not strike us down when we do things that we know aren't right. Instead, He gently leads us back onto the right path... one that includes discipline. It is a Fatherly kind of discipline. Don't you think your Father wants the very best for you? It's true! It is the reason He sent us Jesus Christ.

Now we cannot be our very best if we lack discipline. If we do what we want, whenever we want to do it... not much would get done. God asks us to get up, go out, and glorify His name. Think about all the times you knew you had to do this or that, but instead you slept or sat in front of the TV and ate more food than you can even hold in both of your hands. That accomplishes nothing. And believe me... I know it is much easier said than done. I'm walking down that path in my own life... seeking a lifestyle that includes discipline, so that I may hear God's voice more clearly.

God is the King of kings. That would make us the sons and daughters of the King. How does a son or daughter of the King go about their day? We are called to higher ground. However, you cannot reach higher ground without first taking the steps to get there. There's no mountain-floating going on here! Discipline is a key tool in getting to higher ground... in taking those steps. No one who slept all day ever climbed up many mountains in their lifetime.

Do you want more for yourself? Don't you think God does?

I know God wants more for me and from me. It's difficult and painstaking. But I want to follow His plan for me all the way. Though I'll mess up here and there, if I make an effort... I will not mess up as much!

Discipline can also bring joy, believe it or not. When you do the right things and good things happen... everything falls into the place it needs to be... doesn't that make you happy? It makes me happy... knowing I got things done, made a difference, lived out the day, and had a purpose.

Proverbs 6:23

"For these commands are a lamp,
this teaching is a light,
and the corrections of discipline
are the way to life"
