Jessica's myths BUTTERFLY LOVERS [DID ANYONE ORDER A TRAGEDY EVEN WORSE THAN ROMEO AND JULIET?!] Yingtai, a daughter of the Zhu family of Shangyu, disguised herself as a man and attended school together with Liang Shanbo from Kuaiji (present-day Shaoxing). Zhu returned home first. Two years later, Shanbo visited her and only knew that she was a woman then. He was disappointed and felt as though he had made a loss. He asked her parents for her hand in marriage but her family had already betrothed her to the Ma family. Shanbo assumed office as a magistrate in Yin (鄞; in present-day western Ningbo) and died of illness later and was buried west of the city of Mao (鄮, in eastern Ningbo). Zhu was on her journey to the Ma residence by boat and passed by Liang's grave. The strong wind and waves prevent the boat from advancing. After learning that it was Shanbo's grave, she set foot on land and broke down. The ground suddenly cracked open and Zhu was buried within. Jin Dynasty chancellor Xie An proclaimed the grave as "Tomb of the righteous woman".
YIN & YANG [YOU RISE WITH THE MOON I RISE WITH THE SUN FIRE AND ICE don't talk to me] In Chinese philosophy, the concept of yin-yang (simplified Chinese: 阴阳; traditional Chinese: 陰陽; pinyin: yīnyáng), which is often called "yin and yang", is used to describe how seemingly opposite or contrary forces are interconnected and interdependent in the natural world; and, how they give rise to each other as they interrelate to one another. Many natural dualities (such as light and dark, high and low, hot and cold, fire and water, life and death, and so on) are thought of as physical manifestations of the yin-yang concept.
Yin and yang are actually complementary, not opposing, forces, interacting to form a whole greater than either separate part; in effect, a dynamic system. Everything has both yin and yang aspects, (for instance shadow cannot exist without light).
The relationship between yin and yang is often described in terms of sunlight playing over a mountain and a valley. Yin (literally the 'shady place' or 'north slope') is the dark area occluded by the mountain's bulk, while yang (literally the 'sunny place' or 'south slope') is the brightly lit portion. As the sun moves across the sky, yin and yang gradually trade places with each other, revealing what was obscured and obscuring what was revealed.
Yin is characterized as slow, soft, yielding, diffuse, cold, wet, and passive; and is associated with water, earth, the moon, femininity and nighttime.
Yang, by contrast, is fast, hard, solid, focused, hot, dry, and aggressive; and is associated with fire, sky, the sun, masculinity and daytime.
CHI LI SLAYS THE SERPENT [I've never really had onigiri before...] Chinese folklore tells the story of a serpent who demanded the annual sacrifice of a young maiden. Heroes attempted to slay the serpent, but none were successful and each year a young girl was devoured.
When the time of the ninth sacrifice drew near, a young village girl named Chi Li volunteered to become tribute if she was given a serpent hound and a sword to face the beast with. With these weapons and a bag of heavily sweetened rice balls as a distraction, Chi Li slayed the serpent, ending the sacrifices.
FUNAYUREI [THAT'S WHAT THE WATER GAVE ME] Funayūrei are vengeful ghosts of people who have perished at sea, born about by a Japanese ghost ship that travels silently at night or in thick fog and appears suddenly without warning. Meeting one on the sea is fatal. They approach people on boats and ask to borrow a ladle. If they are given a ladle, they will pour sea water into the boat until it sinks.
If the victims are lucky, they drown, and if they are unlucky they are captured, tortured and eaten by the isohime, a giant fantastical mermaid that likes to catch survivors in sinking ships.
Annie's myths TANABATA [can u feel the love tonight ] Tanabata (七夕?, meaning "Evening of the seventh") is a Japanese star festival, originating from the Chinese Qixi Festival. It celebrates the meeting of the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi (represented by the stars Vega and Altair respectively). According to legend, the Milky Way separates these lovers, and they are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month of the lunisolar calendar. The date of Tanabata varies by region of the country, but the first festivities begin on July 7 of the Gregorian calendar. The celebration is held at various days between July and August.
HYAKKI YAGO [beware the ghostly procession~~~] Legend has it that "every year yōkai led by the yokai Nurarihyon, will take to the streets during summer nights." Anyone who comes across the procession would die, "unless protected." Protection refers to handwritten scrolls by anti-yokai onmyoji spellcasters. The children's game Hyakumonogatari Kaidankai was based on this idea.

This myth explains the practice of tidal irritation and devastating floods in tropical and monsoon land.
