jlneveloff “He told me to find you. He needs a consult.”
Cameron looked at Thirteen and couldn’t decide what to answer. She didn’t want to follow along this time. This was the line she drew.
"Tell House I am busy."
Thirteen gave her that dirty look she gives almost everybody and walked away. Cameron slammed the charts shut and threw them in the pile. Enough was enough.

House was at the nurses’ station avoiding Cuddy and his fellows. The busy-ness of the ER calmed him somehow. He knew no one would bother him and he enjoyed watching all the crazy things people did to themselves and each other; it amused him on some level.
He also took pleasure in observing Cameron. She has gotten much better at hiding her emotions and dropping standard phrases to her patients. Although she still managed to sound sincere. Go figure. He watched her movements get stiffer and more guarded each day.
She refused to join them for a consult yesterday and he wasn't curious why. Really. Well, at least not more curious than usually. He liked the ER, it calmed him.
In the last half an hour, Cameron swept by him more than once and she didn't even look his way. She has gotten colder with him since the resignation. This indifference threw House at first, but he got used to it. He was given a new prospective and now observed her from a distance. Sometimes, however, he didn't understand why there suddenly was such great distance between them. It's like she took herself much further away than was really necessary. They used to share more without words, but she doesn't let him now.
Today she wasn’t just cold, there was an air of hostility about her and he found himself uncharacteristically dumbfounded. He wanted to talk, but didn't really know how to approach her. This was really odd because Cameron was the most approachable person he knew.
He reached her at the supply station. She was getting a catheter bag, some bandages and syringes.
"So, are you enjoying this?"
"What?" Cameron blurted out without looking up.
"Performing stupid procedures on angry, restless people day after day?"
"Leave me alone, House."
She continued to rummage the cabinets, edgy and frustrated. She always wanted to talk to him before, however stupid his remarks may be. Now, it's like she didn't care.
Cameron headed towards the patients.
He followed her.
"Do you have a mysterious illness for me?"
"No, House. Find your own cases"
She was definitely more annoyed than usual.
“Did Chase leave the toilet seat up this morning? Or are you just having woman troubles?”
“It’s your presence. It makes me want to get rid of all the elevators on this floor”
“Seriously. Find me a mystery. I am bored”
“I don’t have time for this. Someone else can baby-sit you while Wilson is gone”
“You know, Mommy is mean when she is at work. This leaves you or Chase and I just don’t like the way he looks at me lately.”
Cameron looked up at him and paused for a moment.
“You are pitiful. Go. Away.”
She was plain angry now, she walked fast and he couldn’t keep up.
House stopped as she continued walking.
"What the hell is going on?" he yelled across the room
Cameron stopped, turned around and hissed through her teeth.
"Not everything is about you House. Leave ME alone."
At that moment the ER door opened again, paramedics screaming to let them through.
"Caucasian male, low forties, stab wound to the chest, blood pressure 90/50 ..."
Cameron ran to help out, pulling the stethoscope off her shoulders. When she reached the patient, House saw her face grow pale.
"God, Rick, what happened?" There was utter disbelief and shock in her voice.
House couldn’t see the man very well; his face was covered with an oxygen mask, eyes closed, bloody bandages on his bare chest. He was medium built, somewhat on a skinny side, dark hair and sharp facial features. He was wearing a black suit, his blue tie was thrown to the side and his white blood-stained shirt torn open.
House watched Cameron try to pull herself together and focus on the task at hand, but her previously unaffected face was now ten shades of worried.
"I need everyone who is available to help me with this patient," she yelled with desperation. "This is my brother," she added in a soft voice as her eyes darted around the room.
"I will get the three of them down here as soon as possible," House offered.
"No. I don't need your help, House. I'll deal with this."
Cameron rushed the gurney into a patient room while nurses hurried to hook him up to the monitors.
House was irritated now; he was not going to take this. He turned around and was heading towards the elevator when he heard two unfamiliar voices whisper as he walked by.
"Did you hear he slept with Cuddy again?"
"No way"
"Two weeks after his heart attack."
House pushed the elevator button and looked up at the floor numbers. He stepped inside and watched the doors close; lowering his head he stared at his feet.
This was going to be a long day.
