Stupid Autumn

Sep 16, 2011 10:30

It was so cold this morning! And dark! And Eric's birthday is tomorrow! I think there is no more denying that Autumn is here a week early. (Let's hope that this ends the summer runs of bad luck!) Bleh. I'm glad to see summer's back, but not looking forward to the months of cold and dark coming up. At least I'm not in IL, where they may be having snow, soon ;)

Tomorrow is Eric's birthday! Yay! I am going to make a ridiculous key lime pie in celebration. Assuming I can find key lime juice. Or key limes. Or lime juice, or limes. It takes over 8 cups of condensed milk and 3 cups of egg yolks (that's more than three dozen eggs!). It's definitely an all day affair -- there's a reason I only make it every five years or so! -- and I'll be fighting Eric for the oven. It should be interesting! (I may make a pavlova with the egg whites so that there is a non-gut-busting dessert option)

Other than that, I've gone back to knitting my Niebling. I have two other projects I'd like to finish this autumn. My sister's Tree of Life socks are halfway done, and I could finish those for a Christmas gift (spoiler, Jenn!), or I could work on cabled gloves for my mom's Christmas. She hinted about a lack of gloves last year, so I sent her some Isotoners. She's wearing them, but disappointed that they're not handknit (personally, I think the Isotoners would be warmer). I bought some yarn to make her a pair of Kingdom gloves (although maybe with a longer cuff) and matching hat. I suppose if I'm going to get them to her in any time to be useful, I should start soon.

This weather just makes me want to knit winter accessories!
