You can tell it's no longer summer. *sigh* The evenings are cooler (I left the windows open last night and woke up chilly!), and I am starting to feel the itch to bake again.
On Sunday, I started the day by making a dutch baby pancake. I used a recipe from
Cosmic Pluto Knits, and it was super easy and delicious. I followed the directions in the comments for warming up the eggs (put them in warm tap water for a few minutes before cracking), and it puffed up wonderfully! Actually, it was so delicious (more like french toast than a pancake!), that I am scared of how easy it was to bake!
Then I made (boxed, but very good) pasta for lunch, and baked pretzel rolls to go with the brats for dinner. Eric assures me that this flood of cooking is nothing special, thus insuring that it won't happen again for a while ;)
Yesterday, I was still in the baking mood, so I made a first-day-of-football mocha pie for the boys, and baked off the rest of my pretzel rolls. By the end of the night, there was only one left, and that's in my lunchbox right now :)
I would probably keep up on my baking spree, but I am out of flour. Curses! It's probably for the best. I have a lot of sewing to do before Halloween!
(As an aside, why do they make boxes of egg whites, but not boxes of egg yolks? I have a ridiculous recipe I'm making this weekend for Eric's birthday, and it calls for several cups of egg yolks. I am not looking forward to separating that many eggs!)
