A thank you from Basic
WOW! What a night!
back2basic. was going to be a one time thing. my 'going away party' as i was off to england. when everything was all said and done, travis, my partner ben and i looked at each other and were like "that was one helluva show!"...
and so obviously the inevitable idea of "should we do another one?" came up. i was moving to england so at first i really didn't think we could pull it off...
and here we are now.
it's not often people in this city throw a huge "first show" and then throw an EVEN BIGGER second one!!
friday night was so much fun for absolutely everyone involved. so many smiling faces from not just the partygoers, but the security, staff, dj's, absolutely EVERYONE had an ear-to-ear grin at <3basic. on friday.
and THAT'S what it's all about people. (btw, i heard some people (HCSTW?) doing the hokey pokey before we opened doors, that made me lol)
so let's see, the thank you's...
first off, to everyone who's come out (for <3basic. and back2basic.), we couldn't do this without you. it's your love and support and BELIEF in what basic. is all about that made both of these events stand out from the rest of the crowd. i said it on the back2basic. flyer, and i'll say it again. seattle has some of the best party people in the world!
secondly, my partner ben and travis, thank you for always coming through when i need you guys. thank you for believing in me and my ideas.
third, to everyone at motor, you guys are an absolute pleasure to work with and really help make everyone feel (from the promoter to the last kid in line) that they really are part of a family. you're an asset to not only the dance music community but to the entire city of seattle and i wish you guys nothing but the best over the next several years!
fourth, to everyone who came and helped set up and decorate the party. i was SO STOKED to see so many people come and be so enthusiastic! big shout out to patty who went and bought (on her own accord) a bunch of the deco and set it all up and stayed to take it down! YOU ARE A ROCK SUPERSTAR!
to my boy skoi (or should it be the other way around? .. ), we FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY were able to combine worlds!!! whodathunkit, right?! thank you for being one of my best friends and helping to keep shit rollin along while i was in england. your support and assistance in making <3basic. one of the most eclectic, well received events is invaluable. the chill room was everything i wanted it to be and more! thank you to JohnM for setting up his little jewelery making shop in there too! i'm so glad you were able to make it!
every single one of the dj's came out last night swinging and rocked the place proper, THANK YOU! i consider each and every one of you a good friend and there's nothing like throwing one big party with all of your friends showcasing their amazing talents! big thanks in particular to ryle and sonny chiba for agreeing to close down the party proper. i knew of all the people on the lineup, you two were the best choice to make sure people stayed right til the very end, AND THEY DID! when's the last time you saw that many kids freaking out like it was midnight when it's 4:55am!? and martin, "silence" will never get old ..
the party was relatively drama free, got to meet a lot of the new generation of kids (although they probably didn't know me .. ) and saw a lot of love going around that just made me smile.
BIG APOLOGIES ABOUT THE DOOR FOR THOSE WHO HAD PRESALES AND STILL HAD TO WAIT!!!
we wound up selling THREE TIMES as many presales as back2basic. (which we, to be honest, didn't expect) and so there was a slight lack of communication over how to precisely run the two lines properly. apologies for those who had presales that didn't get in immediately!
um, what else? oh yeah, for those who did see me, i was the guy giving out the roses (sorry for those who didn't get one, we only were able to buy a few dozen) through out the night as well as the guy with strawberries, oranges and bananas.
thank you to all the VIP people i got to meet! it was great hanging out with you guys in the lounge .. hope you enjoyed your giftbags! i wish i got one!
other thanks to: mark f'n gelinas, bea, leanne, sami, tommy, and everyone i know i'm forgetting right now who helped make this one of the greatest experiences i've had in a long long time ..
i'm moving to LA by the end of the month and i couldn't think of a better send-off than this. it's nice to be able to walk away on top with your head held high...
to those wondering about "just one more" basic. show, i'll say this...
don't count on it, but you never know ..
but even if there isn't another basic. show, always remember the motto,
