Two nights ago I watched Friends: Mononoke Shima no Naki. My friend
creavortex has been telling me about this animated movie and I’m really curious about it so I am glad
castelfranca had a copy of it.
To be honest, I’m just really looking forward to hear Katori Shingo’s (the VA for Naki) phlegmatic voice as described by creavortex but I found the animation to be nice and the characters especially the monsters are so cute. Well, I admit I flailed when I heard Shingo’s voice lol because I wasn't expecting that it will still sound so good Shingo is really amazing as a VA. He should do more VA works.
The story is so touching too and it shows that misunderstanding between two parties can really bring destruction and malice. My favorite part is when Kotake and Naki started bonding with each other. They are so cute and amusing.
I thought I’m not going to cry because creavortex told me she didn’t find it sad enough but I did and it’s not when Kotake was returned secretly by Naki and the gang to the human’s village and when Naki was struck by arrow (though that part made me pity him and I also feel anger to those samurais). It was when Gunjyo decided to leave Naki to go to a very long journey. I love these two’s friendship and for Gunjo to sacrifice their friendship by acting mad so Naki can make a decision is just so touching and sad. For me, ending a friendship or friends separating from each other is still the most painful. The montage of their moments in the island while Gunjo was narrating the contents of the letter he left for Naki left me in so much tears especially on this part:
Over-all, I enjoyed watching it. It’s funny and touching and everything is well done and Katori Shingo pls
