Day 27: Write a poem from the POV of a bride about to say, “I do”. Gradually reveal that she is having “cold feet” and regretting this engagement. Throughout your poem, repeat a line that describes the ceremony’s decorative flowers. This can also be your first/last line.
Purple flowers lined the red carpeted aisle
As everyone looked towards them
They were anticipating her words,
Hearts palpitating even though they already knew the answer.
She smiled at her groom, as she listened to the priest
Her groom was smiling widely too
If only he knew how afraid she’s feeling
And how embarrassed she was with her cold clammy hands.
She didn’t want to admit it
But a part of her regrets saying “yes” to be married
Not because she didn’t love him
but because she knew it will turn out this way.
She hated being stared at
And she’s also dreading the reception
Maybe she could run away?
That would be more embarrassing.
Her heart seemed to lurched out of her chest
When she heard the whispering that broke the silence
They were waiting, her groom was waiting
But she couldn’t open her mouth.
Tears stung her eyes as she saw the worry
In her beloved groom’s face
The last thing she remembered was
The purple flowers lining the red carpeted aisle.
