RopeCons through the years
RopeCon is a roleplaying convention that is held once a year in Dipoli, Espoo. I've been going there since 1999 and yesterday I tried to search for old entries of the Con from my lj, but I didn't find any! Only some entries that said "I'm going to the Con", but no details. It's really too bad because I don't remember too much of the Cons anymore.
1999:
My first Con. I went there with my Internet friends whom I'd just acquired a few months earlier (and who are one of my best friends still these days). I was probably dressed as an elf or something. We wandered around and chatted with people.
2000:
This was Emily's and Simo's first Con. I'd just gotten to know Emily a bit before the Con the previous year and I hadn't had time to hear that she's also into fantasy literature and stuff until just before the Con weekend. She became part of my group of friends during the autumn of '99. Simo followed in the summer of 2000.
I think this is the first Con where I participated in the dancing of medieval dances. I'd learned pornopolkka back in '99 in Linnalive II and probably some other dances too. After this I've been going dancing every year.
I browsed old photos in the net random people had taken from Cons and someone had taken a photo of our group. According to the text below the photo, we were performing some kind of a ritual. :D Well, I guess it looks like it... We were, umm, honouring our "clan leaders". It's a story for another time, perhaps.
2001:
I have no memories of this one. When I go back home I should check whether I have any photos of this year. I have at least a couple of all the years I've been there.
2002:
I found a photo of myself in the net someone had taken from the Con this year, so it's proven I was there. :P Not that I remember anything of it otherwise...
2003:
I remember that year Finncon was in Turku first and that was the first time I cosplayed with Emily and Eath. My costume wasn't too good, though, and the others got all the fangirls. We went to RopeCon in the same costumes later and the same fangirls were there. Hee. So I must have been there.
2004:
I went to the Con dressed as Prince of Tennis characters with Emily and Eath. I only paid myself in on Saturday so I'd get to dance. I think this is the only time I've watched the Saturday night gala thing.
2005:
The first time I knew arflings enough to say hi to them. I danced a lot of pornopolkka, with them and others. This was also the first (and only) time I've ever roleplayed in RopeCon, which is a bit sad considering it's a roleplaying convention. I've mostly just gone there to see friends and have a good time with them.
I ended up staying in the Con for the whole weekend, though I hadn't planned to. I didn't have a sleeping bag and the floors were cold. Luckily I got to stay over the next night at a friend's place close to Dipoli.
I remember that Johanna Sinisalo was one of the guests that year and I liked the presentation she gave of her own work.
2006:
Will make a separate entry of this year.
I have one spare movie ticket that will expire next Monday and this is the only day when I have time to go to movies before it, so I'm going to see Miami Vice after work. I hope it's good. Or at least fun.
