a great entry about Ruisrock, but since it's friends-locked I can't refer it to everyone... I'll shorten the description instead. :) And start at an earlier point in time.
I had been slowly getting sick last week and on Thursday I had a bit of fever (37,3 C) so I told my boss I wouldn't come to work on Friday. I realized that this meant I'd be free to go to the airport next morning to say hi to Harry when he returned from Canada. Things went even better and I got a free ride to Inkoo with him and his parents. We hung out there, ate and watched hundreds of wedding photos. It was all very nice. The house is lovely. They have a bunny and fish!
Harry took a car and drove us to Turku in the evening which meant another free ride for me. Yay. At the beginning of the drive we stopped to say hi to his friend Heidi whom I'd met once before. We proceeded to chat about different bands in Finnish and confusing Harry. When we got to Turku we visited Joe and watched more photos and random videos taken with a digicam. Souveniers were given to people.
We went ruisrocking on Saturday and Sunday. It was awfully hot on both days and the sun shone pretty much constantly. On the first day Harry forgot his car keys inside the car and of course all the doors were locked. It was very funny in a hysterical way. Luckily we got inside without having to break anything.
There was a huge amount of people queueing to get inside the festival area on Saturday. We stood there for around 45 minutes without advancing too much, until I suddenly started to feel like I'd faint or throw up because there were people everywhere and no space to be and it was damned hot. I had to leave the queue and go sit down nearby with the others. We sat there for a while before the security people realized the queueing system didn't work and they opened up more gates to let people pass more quickly.
The rest of the day was nice. We saw a bit of Danish Kashmir which I'd missed in Roskilde and they were very nice. Rest of the day included bands like CMX, Maija Vilkkumaa, Opeth, Gogol Bordello, Flogging Molly and Mew. CMX rocked like always and they managed to make the sky go cloudy. :P Maija has a lovely voice and her hurtful songs touch me more than songs usually do. I should listen to her more. Opeth was a bit boring this time (almost fell asleep listening to them). Gogol Bordello was scarily energetic. I almost got tired just watching them jumping around on the stage! But they played the Start Wearing Purple song and I'm happy. :) Flogging Molly was quite energetic and nice too, but all the songs were similar to each other. Mew I loved like always. They had technical problems at the beginning of the show which disturbed it a bit, but otherwise they were great.
On Sunday we got to the festival area much more easily which was nice. We saw Scandinavian Music Group, Poets of the Fall, YUP, Apulanta, Ismo Alanko Säätiö, Egotrippi, The Crash and Tool. SMG was nice and sounded pretty much the same as they do on their albums. Poets of the Fall had become incredibly gay! The singer had blond hair and acted ridiculously. I was disappointed. They were still okay back in April! YUP was cool live. I haven't listened to them almost at all. Maybe I should? Apulanta rocked like I had expected them to. I love to see them live. I didn't know many of Ismo's or Egotrippi's songs but the mood in general was were good and people danced. I thought I'd only know about one song by The Crash, but they played maybe two or three songs that I recognized, having heard them in the radio (and I don't listen much to the radio). I enjoyed Tool more this time than a week ago. Maybe it helped that I wasn't cold or hungry this time, neither did my feet hurt very badly. Tool was very cool. I even remembered some of the songs they'd played in Roskilde. They were also more talkative this time. ("We'll come back to Europe in November. Look for us then, we'll be wearing pink tank tops with our logo on them.")
I came back to Helsinki on Monday morning and went straight to work. Somehow I survived with just three hours of sleep plus napping in the train.
Okay, that's about it for a "small" summary, I think. I'll leave work in 5 minutes and go see a couple of friends. Later in the evening there will be movies and Pirates of the Caribbean 2!
