Wonderful Weekends (vodka, Eurovisions and Lordi celebration)

May 29, 2006 23:26

I just heard today that my thesis passed and I got a grade of 3 from it. The scaling is 1-5, 5 being the best. I was expecting a grade like this so I'm happy enough. Whee! Tomorrow I will get it bound from university's press. I have to take three copies of the work to school and I want one for myself as well.

Someone burned down the cathedral of Porvoo last night and I'm mad. It's such a beautiful church! And very old too. Growr. First the "makasiinit" here and then this. People have started liking torching things too much in my opinion.

I've been a lazy writer so I have two weekends to catch up with here. I was in Turku a week ago and the vodka circle (Joe, Sanna, Harry and I) sampled the vodka Joe had brought from Russia. Linda also helped. We sampled very carefully, because there was about two litres of it, and after the weekend it was all gone. :P Good vodka. On Friday we watched lesbian porn and Linda and Harry squabbled about which one would get me for the night. There was throwing of die and the die said Harry, so there I went.

Saturday had Linda coming to get us with her car and we bought food from Hesburger for half the price thanks to Harry's roommate's girlfriend working there right then. We watched random bad TV shows while waiting for the Eurovision thing to start. Linda had to leave and go to Porvoo which was very sad. Well, the Eurovisions song contest started and we mocked the bad songs (most of them) and cheered for Lithuania and Finland. Like I wrote in an earlier entry, there was much hysteria all through the ending when the countries gave each other points. And we won. How weird is that? To celebrate, we had the rest of the vodka that we hadn't drank on the previous evening. We also came up with a new drink based on Bloody Mary, called Bloody Lordi. :P Yes, it seemed like a good name at the time. It had crushed tomatoes and/or ketchup in it, vodka, lemon and spice mix from Hesburger. And yes, it was drinkable! Actually almost good.

I felt too drunk to walk anywhere so I stayed the night at the zoo with Joe. On Sunday there was much walking. After we'd gotten up and eaten bread, we took Maggie for a 60-90 minute walk outside. It was very nice. We encountered an even bigger dog than Maggie but survived it fine. We'd decided with Joe and Harry to go see The DaVinci Code in the afternoon and we had to walk to the city because we missed our bus. We were also late, so our ticket reservation wasn't valid anymore, but no one had bought our seats, so we got them anyway. They were perfect. Lucky! The movie itself was entertaining and didn't differ much from the book. I guess it's one of those movies you should see once, but probably not a second time any time soon, until you've forgotten the plot again. After the movie we walked back to the zoo and finally made some dinner. We ate it while watching part of Dude, Where's My Car? from TV. It was still as bad as ever. After eating it was time to travel back home. Sadness.

Stuff happened during last week. Simo's birthday was on Wednesday and we celebrated it by going to a Parnell's pub. Afterwards I went to Emily's and we randomly spoke English and discussed roleplaying. I spent the night there and was going to go back home on Thursday, but that didn't happen after all. We ended up being geeky and playing Baldur's Gate 2 together (multiplayer game) all day. It was great! :D I spent another night there too. This time I had much difficulties with falling asleep and managed it only some time around 6 am, and I kept waking up once in an hour or so until I had to get up at 10:30 am.

So it was Friday and Joe and Harry came here. I went to meet Joe at noon and took her home. We got some food, hung around for a while and then went back to the city. We got ourselves movie tickets to X-Men 3, visited Fantasiapelit and went to collect Harry from bus station. We watched the movie (oh, the sillyness of many parts of it, though others were fun), bought ourselves beer and slowly wandered to the Kauppatori. There were many people around already, but we still got near-ish to the stage. Jenni joined us and we hung around through the whole happening. I believe we also made it to the Guinness world records when we sung heavykaraoke together (all of us around 80,000 people). Wonderful. I didn't care much for Lordi's playing otherwise, but it was cool to hear the winning song live and fun to watch young kids and middle-aged adults all alike shaking their fists in the rhythm of the music.

We had some difficulties in leaving Kauppatori. There was just too many people there and for a while no one was able to move. Finally we made it to Corner's with Sami and Laura whom we picked up along the way. While we were walking, a drunken girl staggered to us, said she had something to say to us and then asked if we were goths or satanists. Jenni had a red coat on her and a peach-coloured shirt, and the rest of us weren't completely dressed in black either. I think our inner goths/satanists must still shine through us or something. Simo was waiting for us in Corner's and we listened to heavykaraoke and had some drinks. Funfun. When we couldn't deal with the smoke and heat and loud music anymore, we moved to the Alter Ego club room and left back home only around 3 am. We fell straight to bed once we got to my place and on Saturday Joe and Harry had to leave quite quickly after we'd woken up. Didn't really want to let them go, but they had a game in Turku, so. Yeah. :\

We barbecued at Simo and Juha's on Saturday evening. Sausages and corn. Yummy. On Sunday I was incredibly bored and today I discussed Werewolf stuff with Simo and we ate in a Pizza Hut. I finally took the plastic collar band thing off of Chi's neck and she's enjoying herself now.

Last week of freedom before summer job begins. Wah.
