Dear Yuletide Author,
first of all, I am so excited to read whatever you write for me! I really cannot wait and I know you will do a fabulous job. In order to make your life hopefully a little easier, here's a bit more detail about my requests, as well as info about what I love in fic and the stuff that I'd prefer you avoid.
first off, I cannot handle rape or non-con, as well as explicit animal or child harm in fic, so please, please avoid those.
here is some stuff I love in fic:
- world building! descriptions of places, how the characters interact with the world around them, the history of the place, etc etc.
- an exploration of the character's backstory. I love knowing what makes the characters who they are, the things that matter to them, what in their past as shaped their present.
- I like angsty fic with happy (or hopeful) endings, but I realize that sometimes, a happy ending isn't possible.
- plotty fic.
- true love, pining for someone else, characters who are romantic/very in love but don't necessarily show it.
-AUs.
here is some stuff that squicks me:
- rape, non-con, explicit animal and child abuse are deal breakers for me.
- humiliation/embarrassment.
- infidelity.
in terms of rating, feel free to go as high as you want. :) if you have any other questions or what clarification on my likes/dislikes, feel free to contact
acchikocchi - she knows me very, very well
now, my fandoms:
Abarat Series- Clive Barker
I requested Candy and Christopher Carrion, but if you want to include other characters as well, please do! One of the things I love about Abarat is the islands themselves, and how many possibilities there exist for what could be happening on each island, their history, and so on. As I said in my request, I'd love to read fic about either Candy or Carrion exploring some of the islands. I'm really interested in knowing more about the islands, and reading about the characters having to figure something out about the islands themselves, go on a quest, something, fascinates me. I'd also love to learn more about Carrion's childhood, if that's something you're interested in exploring.
if you want to write fic about Candy and Carrion interacting - go for it! as I said in my request, I'd love to see them get to know and maybe understand each other a little better. they're both so different, clearly, but I also think that they have more in common than maybe they realize. if you want to write Candy/Carrion fic, please do, but I would like to see some exploration of the complicated dynamics of that pairing, as well as acknowledgement of the fact that both of them (Carrion especially) would have to change in order for them to have some sort of relationship. plotty fic about the two of them would be amazing - if circumstances forced them to work together to defeat some common enemy, for example.
Circle Universe - Tamora Pierce
I requested Tris, Briar and Niko, but again, if you want to include other characters, go ahead. also, you don't need to include all three of them, if you don't want to. I'm interested in reading fic about Tris adjusting to life at university, and Briar dealing with the post-traumatic stress disorder-like symptoms he displayed in The Will of the Empress. neither of them are the most emotionally stable characters, and I'd love to read about them dealing with their issues together as Tris tries to adjust to a very different educational setting!
as I said in my sign-up, I do ship Briar/Tris, so if you want to write about them being romantically involved, go right ahead! of course, if you don't, gen fic about their friendship would also be so much fun to read.
All Quiet on the Western Front - Erich Maria Remarque
I love this book. obviously, fic based on it is not going to have a happy ending, though. as I said in my request, I'm interested in either fic set during the novel, or an AU after the war is over, with Paul trying to adapt back to civilian life and coping with the obviously massive psychological effects of the war.
I do ship Paul/Kat, and have ever since I read this book in ninth grade, so if you feel comfortable writing slash, I would adore to read it. obviously though, a homosexual relationship in the trenches during WW1 is going to be pretty complicated - and I would love to read about what that would be like, considering the constant danger, the (obvious) lack of acceptance of homosexuality at the time, and so on. if you would prefer to write a fic that focuses instead on their friendship, that would be excellent too.
finally, thank you so much for signing up for Yuletide! I'm thrilled to read whatever you decide to write.
