Day 02 - A book or series you wish more people were reading and talking about.
Um. I don't tend to read many series any more. When I was a teenager they were all the rage in my life. I read all series ever written by Tamora Pierce and LJ Smith (the ones I could get a hold of) and Tanith Lee (yes, I shall mention her two days in a row), Harry Potter and uncountable fantasy trilogies. When I was very young there were always the TinTin books (read by my dad at bedtimes) and Beverly Cleary's Ramona books (read by my long-suffering mother).
But for the sake of this meme, I'm going to say: Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series. Seriously, if you've not read these yet, firstly, where the hell have you been?! and secondly, GO READ THEM NOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. They are the kinds of books that literature lovers will adore because there are so many 'in' jokes and subtle and unsubtle winks to literature throughout the ages and lit theory and metafiction and post-modernism and and and. I literally wrote an essay on this series while at university. And even if you never studied/much cared about lit theory or dusty old novels, I promise you, you won't feel like you're missing out anything. This series is witty, smart and bloody good yarn.
Start with The Eyre Affair, otherwise you will be so confused you won't know what's up or down.

Day 30 - What book are you reading right now?
In other news I have decided to make people Christmas presents this year because I am so poor and finding a part-time job that'll only take me for Fridays and weekends seems to be near on impossible. Been trawling through craft blogs and around Etsy and Folksy for some ideas. Britain is not quite so craft mad as the US, and we don't have anything like Michael's over here, which is depressing. However, I sense a trip to the haberdashery's tomorrow... Anyone got any tips for cheep and cheerful gift ideas??
Things I've liked so far (maybe try myself when I have time/supplies):
-
Best mug in the WORLD- Making magnets out of interesting things like
THIS-
Cross stitched slogans-
Quirky/Funny earrings And I'm pretty sure I want to do SOMETHING (jewellery related -earrings most likely) with
this image for my friend L, who loves her kitschy religious stuff. BUT HOW?? I'm thinking re-size and then lacquer?
There will be pictures in the near future.
Also, THANK YOU LOU FOR MY PRESENT. I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU FOR REAL NEXT WEEK. OMG! IT CAN'T COME SOON ENOUGH.
