LOL! This is pretty much how I'm going to be using it forever (if I end up buying it). I COULD READ FIC ON HOLIDAY! The idea thrills beyond all measure. IDE... *____*
It is the greatest thing ever! I can read fic on my way to and from work! Suddenly waiting for the train is no longer an issue, because hi, more time for fic! Fantastic *___*
I get this feeling that if I buy a Kindle to read fanfic on . . . I WILL NEVER READ A PROPER BOOK EVER AGAIN. I already spend most of my reading time reading fanfic. I feel like a very bad English Lit graduate. ¬_¬
Your Kindle sits in a drawer? O__O Can I have it!?
I like books too much, too - I have run out of room for them all and I get a shit-ton free from work. But I'd probably use the Kindle as my fanfic portal. I actually prefer audio books for most of my non-hardcopy-book buying. All the joy of a book with none of the agro. *is dyslexic and sometimes reading is exhausting and a pain in the ass*
I LIKE THAT STORY - APART FROM THE BIT WHERE NOBODY WANTED THE BOOKS. ;____; Which title was it? And how funny that she was giving them out today. Wonder if she couldn't give out all 48 copies in one night, or if she was one of those that only got her books delivered AFTER the 5th. I didn't really have a problem peddling mine last Saturday. Hm. BUT ANYWAYS - YAY! It's quite nice to know that something I worked on reached so many people, even some of my flist! \o/
Apparently, people aren't so interested out in the sticks.
Hahaha! So it would seem. (Though there are just that many more people in London. I mean, I did come across a few people who looked dead uncomfortable when we offered them a free book, saying things like: "I'm already reading a book right now." WHUT? So you can't possibly take another one? Logic: you have none.)
I'm in the same situation! I'm going to buy some sort of e-reader toy this summer before I go to live in Spain again... I need to pack light, and though I LOVE books and will continue buying them, this just makes more sense...
I'll probably get a Kindle, everyone I've ever talked to has loved it. I see the appeal of some of the others - Nook, Sony, etc - but I'm not looking for a mini laptop... just a reader... and I don't want anything backlit because my eyes get really tired looking at screens. The Kindle's screen seems so calming, and it's super light and compact. :)
I'll certainly continue to buy actual books because they make me SO HAPPY. The weight of them, the feel -- oh, just everything.
I do love the fact that it isn't backlit, because that would drive me and my eyes nuts. It's also the perfect travel size/weight. The kindle has it goin' on!
just throwing in my two cents here, because the non-backlit thing was one of the main reasons I got a kindle too, and it really makes a world of difference! Granted, you will need a fairly well-lit room in order to read stuff on the kindle, but sunlight glare etc won't be an issue, and it's no different than needing light to read a regular book. Also, non-back-lit = longer battery life, which of course rocks ;)
