The sea, he was taking his lover to the sea. Noeru had never been and Mamiya had never either. His family had been more of a onsen family and Mamiya had never had any true desire to go to the sea so they never had, but now years later, the ex-reporter, with his lover dead by his crazed best friend, the only one living out of the two that Noeru had had in his life, were going to their resting place. Call it crazy, call it cliché, call it whatever, but Mamiya knew he had no desire to stay alive.
There was no reason to, he would be forgotten soon, just another static of Japanese suicide, but his suicide reason would not be because of dishonor or cruelty but about staying with Noeru. It wasn’t a promise he had made out loud or even to Noeru himself, but he knew when he had found out about Ken-chan, the true meaning behind the telling of that story. Noeru had started to change, change himself, and he had wanted to know that this time he wouldn’t be left behind, or forgotten.
And so now on a quiet empty train to the sea Mamiya was going to honor the promise he had spoken secretly in his mind as he had watched his lover sleep in peace. He would never leave Noeru, they would go to the sea, and float away together. Mamiya knew he wouldn’t miss living but he would miss being with his lover. They hadn’t been very physical. Mamiya was not versed in the way of gay loving, and his young lover had been used to many times by men, and then there had been the rape. They really hadn’t had time to truly explore that world.
But he would miss his lovers smile, the way he drew, the way he sent goofy emails when he was bored, the horrible way he punched, and swimming. His lover had taught him to swim, and while they were about to take the final plunge so to speak, it still would never be the same as it had once been. Mamiya blinked when their stop was called and picking up his bundle he headed toward their final destination, whispering as he saw the sea for the first time, “koi, boku wa daisuki desu. Ima wa umi ni ikimasu. Umi de shindeiru. Yakusoku omamorimasuyo. Ii desu ka? tonarimasuka?”
