Handle meme.
I. What does your LJ username mean?
No meaning really.
II. Do you use your real name online?
No. Hence the "nanashi" at one point in time.
III. What is your handle, or online name?
nagibook.
IV. Where did your handle come from?
My old email was getting hit by spam and the various nicks I'd received from OL friends were way too common. At the time, I was obsessed with WK, and decided to name my then-laptop (a HP omnibook) "omibook" and go by that. But when I tried to sign up for something, it was already taken. So I decided to go with "nagibook" since Nagi's the better hacker anyway. It sounds stupid but 8 characters is perfect for most things, there's little chance of people misspelling it, and I never have to affix numbers to create accounts.
V. How long have you been using the handle?
Since May 29, 2002. You do the math.
100 Questions for the Seiyuu Fan
(note: I like way too many seiyuu to name them all, so I tried to narrow it down to the ones I really, really adored. It cut out a lot I think are worth mention but oh well. I'm lazy like that.)
1. Please give us your name.
pokey.
2. Please give us your birthdate and blood type.
I-don't-want-to and universal donor.
3. Your occupation is?
Secret assassin-in-training. Oops. Guess I'll have to kill you now.
4. How long is your history of being a seiyuu fan?
Hm... I started noticing there were people behind the voices when I got some GW character songs and looked up names to fill in the "artist" field. That was... 2001? 2002? I started recognizing seiyuu and going "wai! it's so-and-so" in anime later, when I watched WK and Gravitation (so many common seiyuu for the three *_*)
5. Please state male seiyuu that you like totally obsess(ed) over.
role-specific: Okiayu Ryoutarou (WK - Crawford, LH - Kentarou), Hayami Shou (YnM - Muraki), Kawano Otoya (X TV - Seishirou), Tobita Nobuo (GB - Akabane), Ishida Akira (PoT - Mizuki), Sasaki Nozomu (Naruto - Hayate), Morikubo Shoutarou (PoT - Kirihara), Kosugi Jurouta (Okane ga Nai dramas - Kanou)
just generally: Okiayu Ryoutarou, Ishida Akira, Midorikawa Hikaru.
6. Please state female seiyuu that you like totally obsess(ed) over.
role-specific: Hidaka Noriko (RK - Soujirou), Orikasa Ai (Gravitation - Tohma), Takayama Minami (SK - Hao, YnM - Hijiri), Ogata Megumi (FMwS - Izumi), Minagawa Junko (CC - Joshua)
just generally: Takayama Minami, Horie Yui (not obsessed, but I've recognized her in a lot of stuff I've seen and her voice is cute)
7. Who is the very first seiyuu you knew (the name) of? From what title?
One of the GW boys. Maybe Orikasa Ai since I probably went for Quatre's song first.
8. Who is the very first seiyuu that you liked completely obsessed over?
I obsessed over Soujirou because of his voice first, but the first seiyuu was Okiayu Ryoutarou (the distinction makes sense to me somehow). For a while, I based my decision of which anime to dload solely on whether Okiayu-san was in the cast list or not.
9. What male seiyuu do you tend to like? (e.g. A low and rough voice)
At the moment, I like the really animated voices which vary greatly in pitch within a single sentence *thinks of Captain Buggy* They're fun. ^_^ I also like cutesy uke voices. But the voices I tend to relisten to over and over again in anime are sort of polished, polite (but not deferential!), tones that have a subtle tone of confidence and smugness behind them.
10. And the opposite, ones you tend to dislike?
I wasn't a fan of deep, manly voice, but that's changed. So none, really.
11. What female seiyuu do you tend to like?
Ones who sing well in their character songs. Otherwise, I tend not to notice female seiyuu's voices, even when the character's my favorite from the anime.
12. And the opposite, ones you tend to dislike?
Babyish "ubuu~" look-at-me-I'm-so-helpless-and-cute voices. *beats Asmaria*
13. Have you ever been to an event, live, stage performance that seiyuu were in?
No.
14. What event was it? Around when?/For those who haven't been, an event that you'd like to go to.
*shrug* I'd rather just listen to the seiyuu and look at pretty 2-D bishies. I really hate crowds.
15. Do you subscribe seiyuu magazines?
No.
16. Have you "come out" about liking seiyuu?
What? Who says I like seiyuu? *huffs indignantly*
17. Of the people around you, fans of which seiyuu are there a lot?
I think everyone likes Okiayu Ryoutarou, since he's such an all-rounder (does a wide range of roles/voices, is in a lot of things, sings pretty well, has a wacky sense of humor, etc). But around me, fans of Ishida Akira seem the most vocal about how much they worship him. I wonder why that is. *whistles innocently*
18. Does your family also like seiyuu?
No.
19. You often watch anime and play games for the seiyuu.
Watch anime, yes. Play games, no. Although I would LOVE to, my very elementary Japanese would fling itself over the nearest cliff if I tried playing a game in Japanese.
*doesn't bother changing
mithas's answer* Plus, a PS2 is one game console my brother wouldn't buy, for whatever reason.
20. You're also interested in variety shows and documentary narrations.
No
21. If seiyuu that you liked were in it, it doesn't matter if it has a minimum age limit (R, NC-17, etc.)
Nope. Although that hentai anime with the hamster and Seki Tomokazu was just horribly crass.
22. If seiyuu that you liked were in it, it doesn't matter if it's a Boys Love work.
XD
23. ...Rather, do you like Boys Love works?
Yep, I do.
24. Have you ever had a case of "This character's voice is this person!"?
Uh... doesn't that happen all the time, once you become a seiyuu-whore? The first instance I can really remember doing that and getting excited was when I dloaded Fruits Basket ep. 1, not knowing anything about it. "WAH! That's Okiayu Ryoutarou ♥" "Ahh! And isn't that Seki Tomokazu? It sounded like Shuichi right there! ♥"
25. Have you ever had a case of a sudden cast change that didn't go over well with you?
No.
26. Have you ever been surprised by the gap between (a seiyuu's) voice and face?
The ones who sound sexy are usually ugly. I try not to look at pics.
27. Are looks important for a seiyuu?
Obviously, no.
28. There's been detection of a scandal for seiyuu you like! What would you do?
OMG, Morikawa Toshiyuki really *is* f-ing Ishida Akira? :99999 I want pics!!!1111 No, nothing. Why would I care?
29. Are there any seiyuu of the same gender that you admire?
Admiration would require that I know something about the seiyuu, aside from how much I like their voice.
30. Do you yourself have confidence in your voice?
It's okay. The nasal thing only works if your name is Midorikawa Hikaru, though.
31. Frankly, you want to become a seiyuu!
Hm... that'd be fun! ^_^
32. What is the most expensive seiyuu related good you've purchased? BTW, how much was it?
*thinks* I don't think I've ever bought seiyuu-related goods. O_o Unless you count those RK DVDs I bought, just so I could listen to Soujirou "Shishio-san~ n_n" as much as I want~ 14 dvds (up to end of Kyoto arc) x $20.
33. You've had a work that you've been anticipating disappointingly only be aired on WOWOW, BS, CS (pay cable networks).
No. I only hear about series after it's been fansubbed, so don't anticipate anything.
34. You've thought "I want to live in Tokyo..." before (For shows and events only in Tokyo/Kantou region)
I like it here, thanks.
35. Extras (special footage, figurines, etc) that only come with a DVD don't settle well with you.
Why should it? The people willing to shell out for DVDs should get some perk. Although the only thing I ever got with my DVDs were some stupid survey cards you could send back for various GW toy models (while supplies last!). Supplies did not last long enough for me to get them.
36. Becoming an anime and becoming a drama CD, which makes you happier?
An anime, because it's not a physical thing which one could trample and then toss into the dumpyard once DVDs become the norm and CDs obsolete. =P
37. You listen to seiyuu radio programs.
If I happen to come across them. Which reminds me,
Ishida Akira no Kodawari Club 1-4! He responds to mail and prattles on by himself for about 40 minutes. ^___^ *snugs him*
38. You've had a postcard (that you sent in to a radio program) read before. Or actually, you live to send in postcards?
No.
39. You've sent fanletters and presents to seiyuu you like.
No.
40. List the top three works you think to have a very luxurious casting.
Hm... I don't feel like thinking of them.
41. (Regardless of whether you like them or not) List the top 3 seiyuu you think are really cool (kakkoii).
The ones who *sound* cool? Kosugi Jurouta, Hayami Shou, and Inoue Kazuhiko.
42. (Regardless of whether you like them or not) List the top 3 seiyuu you think are really cute (kawaii).
Midorikawa Hikaru, Moriyama Eiji, and Ishida Akira (I get the feeling I'm supposed to list females here).
43. (For various reasons) List the top 3 works that were quite shocking.
What does this have to do with seiyuu?
44. Are there any seiyuu that, just by chance, (your) opinion of them improved?
Kaida Yuki. HxH was one of the few things where I actually bothered to read a good deal of the manga. I tend to like uke-ish female-voiced bishounen, so I was excited to find out Kurapika (my then-favorite character) was voiced by a female. I wept when Kurapika spoke because he sounded like some matronly 30-something-year-old woman. I couldn't even like him until the end of the TV series/beginning of first OVA. It was probably the pre-conceived expectation I had that made it disappointing, because I went on to like Kaida-san as Kenji (Rurouni Kenshin OVA) and Fuji (Prince of Tennis).
45. Are there any seiyuu that, just by chance, (your) opinion of them dropped?
Hidaka Noriko. Soujirou was the first character whose voice I completely swooned over. But then I heard her as Akane (Ranma 1/2) and it was like, ew! she sounds so annoying. I never heard another role of hers that I liked. Even her Soujirou-songs are too girly-sounding for me to think of as Soujiro singing. T_T
46. Is there an official seiyuu site that you always frequent?
No.
47. Is there a seiyuu fansite that you always frequent?
No, although I like to drop by certain LJs that I know has a lot of seiyuu-talk. =X Too intimidated to friend or say anything to attract attention, because they're really good at Japanese and true seiyuu-whores (not posers like me. ToT). But yeah... fun reads.
48. Is there a seiyuu fansite that you manage yourself?
No.
49. What do you think of fansites? Also, going through a fansite, has anything ever changed for you?
They're nice to have around although I never go through them. Regarding seiyuu-related LJs - when someone talks a lot about a certain seiyuu I knew by role or name but was indifferent to, I start paying more attention and have an easier time recognizing them later on.
50. Halfway point. A word at this lookback point?
I think it's more accurate to say I'm a character-whore rather than a seiyuu-whore. I could go totally nuts over a character's voice, but be lukewarm to another, even when played by the same seiyuu in the same sort of voice.
51. List the top three seiyuu that you think sing really well.
I listen by anime, not by seiyuu. So choosing from the small samples I've had of their voices: Sakamoto Maaya, Takayama Minami, Chiba Saeko *gets smote for choosing all female*
52. Please give a seiyuu that you really like the music for (you often listen to as regular music).
I listen by albums, not seiyuu. I *do* have a folder just for Okiayu and E.M.U. songs though.
53. Besides seiyuu, please give musicians that you like.
Haven't kept up with music in years but old favorites are Sechskies, Koyotae (original), Shinhwa.... err... that's all I can think of. I tend to like only a few songs by each group.
54. For karaoke, you mainly sing anime and seiyuu songs; or would like to sing.
I like karaoking to k-pop songs.
55.Your favorite anime/seiyuu song is?
Currently?
Kata Koto no Koi (duet version) | Tanaka Rie & Sugita Tomokazu (Chii & Hideki) | Chobits
Be My Angel | Enomoto Atsuko (Misaki) | Angelic Layer
o.mo.u | Midorikawa Hikaru & Sakaguchi Daisuke | E.M.U.
Ichibyou no Refrain | Otoha (Natsumi) | GetBackers
Holy Holiday | Tanaka Mayumi (Luffy w/ Zoro bgv) | One Piece
Maybe Baby | Seki Tomokazu | Yatteranneze! (I'd up this but it's the first 4 minutes of an hour+ BL drama and I don't have file splitting program)
M to N no shouzou | Ishida Akira, Kasahara Rumi & Takayama Minami
56. What work was the start of your liking obsessing over seiyuu?
Weiss Kreuz.
57. If a seiyuu you like is in it, do you think "I want to see all works, regardless!"?
Yes. I *still* can't get past episode 12 or so of Gundam Seed (and only got that far because I watched by reading the subtitles at 2x speed for all the parts that weren't Ishida, Hoshi, or Seki XD)... but I *do* want to be able to get through it.
58. Do you watch foreign movies dubbed?
No.
59. Is there any "For this foreign (movie) star, the dub has to be done by THIS person!" for you?
No.
60. Please recommend some movies (Foreign, Japanese, Anime, all included)
Momento. Fight Club. Chicago. Star Wars (IV-VI; not the new crap). The Rock. Pulp Fiction. Forrest Gump. Um... others I'm not remembering at the moment.
61. Do you work with doujin (fan circles)?
No.
62. Have you ever used a pen name/handle name that was a take on a seiyuu or character you liked?
Yes.
63. Have you ever named your postpets, "Doko demo issho" characters after seiyuu or characters that you like?
WTF is a postpet? O_o
64. What are the images/ringtones/strap for your cell/PHS?
No straps. Same ringtone as when I got it from my brother. *is lazy*
65. What is the wallpaper and sounds for your PC?
A fanart of long-haired Shishido linking arms with short-haired, capped Shishido. No customized sounds.
66. Do you have any anime and game related desktop accessories?
RK figurines. Although they're really my brother's and I stowed them away because I hate having to dust things.
67. What kind of mouse pad are you using?
No mouse. Using laptop touchpad.
68. Do you have any seiyuu and anime/game posters decorating your room?
I used to have GW boys up when I lived in the apt. Now I like my walls bare and my posters pristine. I never spend time in my room anyway.
69. Were you a TV child from an early age?
Starting when I was around 10, maybe. Is that early?
70. Are there any seiyuu/characters that you're good at impersonating?
No. My brother did a remarkable Jessica Rabbit when he was younger. XD
71. What female seiyuu do you think works well at voicing boy roles?
All the ones that actually do voice boy roles.
72. What male seiyuu do you think works well at voicing female roles?
I think Tobita Nobuo could do it passably well it if he wanted to. ^_^
73. What seiyuu works well at voicing an elder brother or sister role?
Onosaka Masaya for brother and Hisakawa Aya for sister.
74. What seiyuu works well at voicing a younger brother or sister role?
Hoshi Souichirou for brother and Kobayashi Yumiko for sister.
75. What seiyuu works well at voicing a teacher role?
Inoue Kikuko (obviously the nice, nurturing kind).
76. What seiyuu works well at voicing children roles?
Ohtani Ikue and Takeuchi Junko.
77. What seiyuu works well at voicing the bad guy?
Suwabe Junichi and Takayama Minami.
78. You make one too! "(Seiyuu name) is good at (_________) roles!"
"Seki Tomokazu is good at whiny-yet-somehow-cute roles."
79. "I wish that (seiyuu name) would increase the number of (_________) roles..."
I don't know. Oftentimes, I watch an anime thinking, hey, cool! there's a seiyuu I really liked as ____. Then I end up not liking the seiyuu's new character and fall for some other voice of a seiyuu I never paid attention to previously. So yeah... I'll take whatever seiyuu's dished out.
80. What male characters do you tend to like? (e.g. A nihilistic villain, etc.)
The antagonists. Psychotic murderers. Self-centered bastards. Emotionless killers. Cynical haters of mankind.
81. And the opposite, what kinds do you tend not to like?
Serious, stoic types who are good at everything and always wins except against the main character (if they aren't the main charas themselves); the brooding avenger types that are supposed to be "kakkoi."
82. What female characters do you tend to like?
It depends. I can love one character but then totally hate another with the same characteristics. Usually though, the rivals to the main female character (or secondary female character, even if there's no rivalry).
83. And the opposite, what kinds do you tend not to like?
For some reason, a lot of the older CLAMP females who's highly respected/liked by other characters in the show (e.g. AL - Shuuko, CCS - Mizuki, Chobits - Shimizu, MKR - Emeraude, X - Hinoto).
84. Please list your favorite 3 characters.
Seta Soujirou - RK. The other two... it's like trying to compare apples and oranges. I just have favorites from each show (and sometimes I like a dozen equally as much, in different ways). About a third of my faves from each show are female, although I'm less inclined to look for fanworks for them.
85. Please give how long you've liked your favorite characters.
Soujirou - since 2000?
86. What do you think of entertainers (idols, actors etc) taking a stab at voice work?
Whatever.
87. Who do you think is an entertainer likely to try voice acting in the future?
Don't know any.
88. Is there anyone who you absolutely don't want to know that you are a seiyuu fan?
I don't think anyone would care.
89. One day, suddenly, a person who you thought never had any interest in anime and seiyuu talks to you about seiyuu. What would you do?
Go with the flow.
90. A seiyuu that you like is bashed by another person. What do you do?
Oh, you mean like people who say that listening to Ishida-uke and Ishida-singing are equivalent to torture? XD Be amused by it, agree with the truthful parts, and love the seiyuu even more for being such a dork.
91. Speaking of major seiyuu, who do you think of?
Koyasu Takehito, Seki Tomokazu, Okiayu Ryoutarou. Those three were popular when I first got into seiyuu and they still come out in everything.
92. Among the seiyuu that you like, do you think they're major (well known?) Or are they minor?
Mostly major. Otherwise, I wouldn't have known who they are myself.
93. Do you think of yourself as a teenybopper?
God no. Although I think I give that impression. *has been mistaken for rabid 15-year-old fangirl/boy a few times*
94. Since you are cheering them on, do you want (seiyuu that you like) to become popular?
Sure. That means more people to squee over with, and more people that I could possibly get info/files from. But for the characters themselves, I get burned out and lose interest if everyone else starts liking them.
95. Give an episode related to seiyuu that was happy.
Hm... listening to Minagawa Junko sound ultra-sexy as Joshua. I liked her voice before and knew she was in Chrno Crusade, but didn't expect her character to be the type of bish I fall head-over-heels in love with. *___* So her voice + Joshua's looks + personality = reason to continue watching, even though I was starting to think CC wasn't that great. *is indifferent to Ishida-Chrno and other characters*
96. Give an episode related to seiyuu that was trying.
See #44 (Kaida Yuki as Kurapika).
97. Give an episode related to seiyuu that was embarrassing.
None.
98. About how much longer do you think you'll remain a seiyuu fan?
Maybe when the ones I first knew drop out and I realize I don't know who anyone is anymore.
99. To you, what is a "seiyuu"?
Japanese voice actor.
100. Good work, it's over. Give one last comment!
That was long. ~_~ And I could only think of the same small batch of seiyuu to pick from over and over. Damn short-term memory.
Random seiyuu facts I was startled by:
- Suzuki Chihiro is in okane ga nai 2
- Mizuki Nana (Rue's seiyuu) is Hinata from Naruto
- Tsuda Kenjirou actually sings in S&T2
