Baby Girl is 23 weeks along. According to the app on my phone, which I suspect is programmed by someone who's never actually gone to the produce aisle of a grocery store, Baby Girl is about the size of a Papaya.
She's been a lot more active this week, with lots of dancing and singing. I can officially confirm that she likes piano music, specifically the piano rendition of Hallelujah. She likes her daddy's version best, but she will dance to Rufus Wainwright's as well.
The Good:
All moved in to the new courthouse! Granted, I only had three boxes, and most of them were office supplies, stuff I could probably leave behind when I go. My office has a lovely window. I know others weren't keen on the fact that it overlooks the conference center next door instead of, say, the snowy mountains, but the sunlight is lovely, and also my office stays pretty darn warm.
The bailiffs were very sweet and helped me carry boxes in, and they also popped by to say hello and introduce themselves around to my coworkers who don't know them. One of them also left a note on my desk. I ran into one of them on my day off. My husband was sweet and agreed to come watch Aquaman with me even though he's not even remotely interested in Jason Momoa, and we went to the cinema, and we split up to use the loos, and I popped out at the same time as my husband, but he had his back to me, so I said, "Hey Honey," but the man who answered was not my husband. It was one of the off-duty bailiffs, though. So for the rest of the week we made fun of each other with "hi honey" whenever we saw each other.
I got to take naps this week, and cuddle with my husband and puppies. I finished the baby dress for my girl and packed a few boxes, and in doing so uncovered some of the baby stuff my mother had sewed the last time around, so that was nice, finding some more baby supplies. Also my husband helped me add some stuff to our baby registry list, so that was good. Him getting interested in the details of baby is important.
The weekend was pretty chill and relaxing, and I found decent words, and also had a lot of fun playing Pokemon Go, and I started a story in a fandom I don't usually write in, and it's gotten goo reception for now, so I am pleased. Tomorrow is the first day of the new courthouse running. We shall see how it goes!
My parents got done with their cruise, so I talked to my mother for the first time in over a week, which was lovely. I didn't realize how much she was part of my daily routine till she wasn't there.
I am super enjoying my parenting class, and learning lots of things, so I am pleased. Also I actually got to sit and pre-draft a closing argument for a trial instead of the usual making something up on the fly after a five-minute recess from a final witness. I'm not overly excited about this trial having made it to a second day, but you do what you must.
The Bad:
Oh man. We ended up having three emergency hearings on Wednesday at the old courthouse. I misread my calendar and thought the first hearing was at 9:30 but instead it was at 9 so I had to rush to court to get on time. But the judge was late anyway. I covered one case for a coworker that was...just a disaster. One of the public defenders tried to take advantage of the fact that I was covering and misrepresented her arguments at previous hearings. I picked up two crazy cases, one of which involves a poor woman with a very traumatic history who now hears voices, most of which tell her to hurt herself, rendering her unable to care for her child.
One of the voices is a cat.
It was pretty snowy and wet in some places, so I had to be super careful while I walked, and I worked some crazy, crazy long days, three days in a row. Twelve-hour days three days in a rows super rough, and it's like that pretty much every week, which makes me sad. And tired. I love dancing, but we are learning three sets of choreography instead of two, and afterward I'm super sore (but I started going to a massage therapist who specializes in prenatal massage, so that's nice).
Also, I watched K-drama for six hours straight on Friday evening after work and wrote zero words. It took me a bit to get into that drama, like three different attempts to watch all the way through the first episode. And then...I couldn't stop.
But it has Rain, though. RAIN. Cannot go wrong. The first movie I ever saw him in was Ninja Assassin and he was all grim and violent, so seeing him to drama and comedy has been fun.
I really am burnt out with my job, for reals. I am just...so done.
But I can hold on! I know I can. I've got this. My husband has been very sweet.
Here we go!
