So yesterday was my 26th B-day and I do actually feel a little older. Not because of my age, but rather because I am just that much closer to 30. I'm not sure why 30 is a negative number for me, but it feels that way. I had the day off from work and just spent it at home with the wife and my twins. We did go grocery shopping, but that was the highlight as I still had class that night.
On saturday though, I participated in my first 40k tournament since I left Florida. I played my Guard and I was disapointed in the turnout for the tournament considering the size of the store, but apparently they did not advertise it very well. There is even a chance that a lot of people may show up this weekend because their website said the tournament was 11/8/08. Anyway, I ended up winning the tournament in a rather decisive fashion. The first game was against the new space marines and I took them to the man by turn 4. The second game was against an eldar player and was possibly the cheesiest army that I had ever seen. 2 ten man seer councils w/fortune, a full squad of wraithguard, a small guardian squad and 9 war walkers. Considering this was a kill point mission I was sure that I was going to lose. As I was the only guard player, the tournament director came over to us as we were setting up and told us that my KPs were being modified according to the 'ard Boyz tournament rules. This meant that instead of 23 KPs, I only had 17. Of course, compared to his 9, meant very little to me. Unfortunately this guy started complaining how unfair this was to him and that the entire mission was unfair to begin with. He didn't even want to play but the tournament director convinced him to play. We only made it into the beginning of my second turn before he decided that everything was again unfair and that he wanted to quit. This was due to my above average reserve rolling and nothing else, because at this point I hadn't killed a single miniature. I negotiated with him and we agreed to give me the minimum win and half the bonus points and he took the minor loss and the other half of the bonus points. With this straightened out and no pressure he said, "well, lets just play for fun to see how it would have gone since we have to wait for everyone else anyway." 1 hours later, it was clear that he would have won the game by 10 KPs. He then tried to to take the win and I had to quickly remind him that we called it at the beginning, thankfully a few people had watched our game from the beginning and sided with me. What a tool huh? Anyway he ended up dropping out from the tournament at this point and just left. My last game was against a chaos player and the new codex. He ended up quitting in turn 3 when I killed his demon prince. Part of me was disapointed with the fact that 2 of my games basically ended in under an hour because the other person decided to quit. The other part of me loved the free swag that the store gave me. Hopefully the next one will have a better turn out in February and maybe Bryson will actually want to play.
Speaking of Bryson, we finally converted up his deceiver model. It was my first work at actual sculpting. I think it looks cool, but its definently not up to par, but not a bad first try. I'll try to post a pic when we get it painted.
