music love + Hanna

0.0  Wow, I'm posting a lot this week.

Thanks to crsg , I discovered Kalafina (and Scandal).  I was super stoked to see their cover of Anna ni isho datta no ni.  They also did a cover/duet with ELISA of a Rayearth song, and I love the harmonies in the opening.  So pretty~  Also, yea Wakana, rep us tenors (Red Moon ~7.51)!  I still want more lives of Oblivious and Sprinter.

And Glee.  I have the distinct impression the background vocals are all pre-recorded in lives.  Knock it off.  They can sing, and I'd like to be able to hear it.  That said, I am such a sucker for that head nod thing at the end of Teeange Dream. *.*

I've also realized the reason I love Lady Gaga so much is probably because she writes so much about bad romances. XDDD  While I side-eyed Born This Way real hard for the chola/Orient descent (which I'm bummed to see made it's way in Glee, but I shouldn't be surprised.  I can only hope Tina isn't singing that line), I love Judas.

I've also been thinking (thanks to all these classes) after seeing this promo for the HBO special, of Gaga's body being projected upon.  She takes on a (presumably) different persona for her fans, and does much of what she does for them as well (promo paints that pretty well).  Much like Frankenstein's creation (the literary one) serves as a repository of fears of his time (colonialism, science, motherhood), Gaga's fans project their desires/hopes/dreams on her, even as the haters project their fears onto her.  It's also this idea of the personal self being subsumed as well...  Just something about that promo paints her as extremely vulnerable.

Lol, yeah, that's (almost) it for academic babble tangents.

adjfl;ajflkad;asd;j;; I want to see Janelle Monae live so bad.  This version of Many Moons is so fucking bomb.  The freestyling section is so rad, I'll forgive the lack of my favorite lines ("Jim Crow, dirty lies, my regards" I love the juxtaposition there).

I don't know if I made a post where I said how much I love Janelle Monae.  So, well, I'll just say it again.  Sci-fi concept album, she cites Octavia Butler as one of her influences, and at her concerts passes out flyers that says she's not responsible for any children conceived at her concerts being born with wings.  Conceptually though, I love what she's doing.  Messianic black cyborg in the future; threat of miscegenation/forbidden love between man machine; mixed body/cyborg body as bridge between the two (ok, so that's not always a good thing, but it's along the lines of Neo and The Matrix I feel).  If she pulls off the multimedia experience of movies and comics, I will stan/fangirl this so hard.

I also feel Monae pulls off the savior thing much better than Gaga.  It's not pretentious.  Gaga's image of savior crosses over into real life, whereas Monae's isn't claiming she's about to overcome racism (well, racism, isn't what it's about but eh).

Her wikipedia entry's pretty good too if you want links to interviews / quick overview of her.  She's touring with Bruno Mars this summer.  I'm tempted to buy tickets, but I don't care about Bruno Mars.

Oh, and if you didn't see her Grammy performance with BOB and Bruno Mars, that was also super rad.  Mars' rendition of Grenade I liked, surprisingly enough; Doo Wop ftw!

When I had to write my bio, I was tempted to write that I can only aspire to be a messianic cyborg savior like Cindi Mayweather. XD

Oh, Hanna.  Pretty original and unpredictable.  The kind of move it is, I feel, is really common with a male protagonist (Bourne Identity is what comes to mind; journey of self-discovery with ass-kicking espionage along the way), particularly it's utter lack of romance.  With female protagonists (let alone a young, unfetishized/sexualized one) it's pretty much unheard of.  So I see where people are saying this is what action flicks with women should be like.  The irony of course, is that this movie was made by a man.  At the same time, I'm not fangirling this thing hardcore.  It's definitely something I'm recommending to people though.

Would never have seen it if it wasn't for the great things I heard; that there were fairy tale motifs (there are; the trailer just did a poor job of showing it) and non-sensationalist kiss between girls (also true; also in this case kissing was more of an intimacy than sexual).  Cate Blanchett was great; her accent switched up a lot, but I think that was on purpose.  Really wanted an epilogue of some sort.  I'm curious how well the languages were spoken.  I understood some of the French at least.

The X-Men First Class trailer actually looked really good.  Captain America trailer was so-so; mostly amused by how scrawny the guy was.  I feel totally sorry for him if he had to go from scrawny to he-man; I imagine that involved hard-core dieting and intense exercise/weights.  I think I'm going to see Thor though; Idris Elba and gah, that Asian dude, mmmm eye candy? lol.

Lol, yeah, that's what I did with my Easter Sunday; I went off-campus (a rare occasion) spontaneously (even rarer!).
