Election Night Liveblog Post

Nov 04, 2008 16:22

As per my custom of previous election years, watch this space for significant developments.

Polls in the East close in a little under an hour and a half.

8 PM Update:

PA flips early for Obama. I seem to recall in 2004 sitting up until the wee small hours of the morning waiting for the PA projection.

As of this writing, states being called for Obama:

Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Washington DC, Illinois.

As of this writing, states being called for McCain:

Tennessee, South Carolina.

Obama is up by 300,000 votes in Florida, and up in Virginia.

Exit polling in PA suggests that Obama carried both white working class and white women by commanding percentages.

Five-Thirty-Eight's 8:15 update is refraining from calling PA as of yet, but I think it pretty inevitable when Philly and surrounding counties went for Obama over McCain by more than twenty percentage points.

Correction, next update right now:

Democratic challenger Kay Hagan unseats Senator Liddy Dole in North Carolina.

9 PM Update:

No surprise: New York is being projected for Barack Obama. New Hampshire and Rhode Island have also flipped for Obama. Some sources are calling Michigan and Minnesota for Obama.

McCain is picking up all his expected "safe" red states.

Tom Udall takes New Mexico's Senate seat, flipping to Democratic. Thus far, four Senate seats have switched hands, all of them going from Republican to Democratic.

AT 9:24 PM, OHIO PROJECTS FOR OBAMA.

New Mexico calls for Obama.

The broadcast news coverage is starting to sound like a McCain post-mortem.

Annnnnnnnnnnnd in case any of you were wondering, Trade chat on WoW is positively overflowing with the stupid, whiny, and stupid -- my ignore list has never been so full!

11:00:

ABC calls it for Obama.
Fox calls it for Obama.
