Saw one of my doctors yesterday.
We decided the best course of action is surgery.
Up until I mentioned that I have never had a laparoscopy, my doctor seemed at a loss. I have been in pain, I have been on pain meds for years. The Lupron injections definitely helped, but are by no means a cure, just a treatment to curtail endometriol growth. She seemed reluctant to keep me on pain meds, but knew that I would need them to get through.
I told her that I wanted to find and treat the source, rather than just the symptoms. She and the gastroenterologist have been bouncing back and forth, claiming the problem is in the other doctor's court.
I mentioned the laparoscopy, and her eyes seemed to light up. She started to explain the procdure to me, saying everything they can check for. She said that even if they find nothing, I could still have the endometriosis; that it would just have been affected so much by the lupron that it would be microscopic.
However, she thinks that it is a very good idea. If they find nothing, I can go to the gastroenterologist and say they found nothing, then it would be up to him to go forward from there (though he and the urologist are insistant that the grouping of my problems are caused by endometriosis.). In the very least, they can check out the mysterious cyst they found with the scan that didn't show up on the ultrasound.
I'm relieved. I am glad to be taking these steps to reach an answer. And I will have answers. No more worrying about being in a endless loop.
I'm nervous about the procedure, though. I've had enough surgery before to remember going in and coming out feeling much worse.
The recovery period is a solid week. A solid week off of work, a solid week off of school.
I'm afraid of going through this alone. Then again, my fear makes sense. I was hospitalized after my first two sinus surgeries. The first time was because I was in such bad shape, the second time because I had an allergic reaction to the cocaine they used as a clotting agent or whatever the hell they used it for. Good for nosebleeds. HA. After having my tonsils out, I woke up one night with blood gushing down my throat and out my mouth.
A lot to think about.
It will most likely not be until January or so. The nurse will call me probably within the next week to let me know when.
I'll be at Borgess. I prefer Borgess over Bronson, and am quite grateful for that fact.
