I seem to get less stares as a male with a black eye than a female. At least it faded quickly either way.

I'd say it's more likely that the others assumed that you'd been hurt by a boy, or gotten wrapped up in something dangerous.

Possibly... And I was hurt by a boy, but it was just part of the game. And... that person is no longer a boy. It was part of whatever happened to us that changed our genders.
