belated week 4/ intro to Gogol..

Mar 14, 2008 21:01

so this week we did our introduction to Gogol, and please forgive me in advance for any spelling mistakes or any dislexic word structure slips as my computer is doing funny things and the less i give it to do, the happier this thing seems to be and the more co-operative...

i enjoyed our lecture this week, i could understand and sort of pin-point some of the places that the guest speaker we had mentioned as i was reading this book a while ago,, not my type but quite good actually called the Bronze Horseman.. funnily enough actually named after Pushkin's poem. The writer through out the text refers to streets and actually provided a map so it was quite interesting to look at it as a whole. This book is set in leningrad and they actually live close to Nevsky prospect and st Issac's so i was sort of like... OMG .. i know something,,,

the story i selected to read to use for the essay was the overcoat... i didnt really get it. I dont think im very familiar with Gogol's stuff yet to understand.. but guys seriously.. look him up through the uni data base but search the overcoat with it.. and soooo much comes up its not funny, and it all is relivant, i mean most of it actually explains stuff i wouldnt get,,,

one serious problem i encountered this week... i understand for copyright reasons we cant copy a whole book.. so i dont understand why it only lets you view 10%, im not copying it, im viewing it. I was looking at a text online and the first 10 pages i looked at were crap because i had no idea what i was doing and as soon as i got to a good part, i had maxed out my viewing.. i was sooo upset.. it doesnt take much these days let me tell you, what with work and everything,,,

anyway..im off, its friday, and its been a bloody big one,
