Today I learned about complex numbers (again - but this time I undertrood).
Life might be like complex numbers; or rather it might be possible to explain life (as in peoples lives and lifespans and thoughts and stuff) in the same way as complex numbers are explained in maths. Complex numbers are not real; there is no way to "see" them or to give them a certain value, but they are very much defined and logical and necessary to explain the real world.
I am convinced that life is nothing more but a series of (bio)chemical reactions and there's nothing we can do about it. But maybe there is something else, not in another dimension for dimensions have to be physically verified, but in something like a complex realm. It's just there by definition. And that definition would be our selfconciousness.
The complex number z=a+bi (with a and b real numbers and i defined as the solution for x square=-1) so "z" has a complex part "bi" and a real part "a".
Going back to my analogy; life (z) has a real part (a) that contains all the physical and material and (bio)chemical stuff and a complex part (bi) that explains our selfconciousness and compassion.
For some people "bi" might be God, others just live their lives aware of some things and unaware of other things.
Edit: I wonder how I will look back on this entry in a few months or years. (Since I've had many philosophies - trying to explain the world around and inside me, sometimes using science and sometimes using supernatrual stuff. I hope this one will stand for a while, I feel content with it. (More content then my last one about "choice is an illusion" - the (bio)chemicalreactions part)
