According to Caiaphas(who from his emails it seems works for some state agency having to do with transportation)
"Here's what I have for the moment. I'm checking with the maintainance people on a regular basis. There is a way to bypass I-5 without having to use the passes. It requires using some back roads, but for now it is possible.
I-5 is currently closed from milepost 88 to milepost 68.
When you reach the Olympia / Lacey area on I-5 take the exit to Tenino. Take SR 507 into Centralia. There's a backroad that will lead to Chehalis which is residential. From Chehalis follow the roads to Toledo. Toledo is at milepost 60 which is past the I-5 closure. You can get back on I-5 from there.
If you have a map of Washington, then examine the routes that I stated above that parallel I-5. You should be able to follow it from there.
--- kerij-e comment: I'd be worried though that the backups on those residential roads would be horrible. being stuck in the middle of nowwhere...
