New Twilight - Jacob/ Leah fic, man i soo wish these two were cannon.

Breakaway

It was all too much.

He’s in her head every time she closes her eyes. Questioning everything she says and does without a word, studying her moves and making her want to run as fast as she can without looking back.

She’s been looked at that way before.

It never occurred to her that she’d have to tread carefully, draw a line so she wouldn’t get too close. (She never thought he’d have the audacity to try.) Which is why when it happened she didn’t know what hit her.

He takes her hand and pulls her close. Leah doesn’t know what to say, she can’t help but rest her head against his shoulder and savour his hot breathe on her neck.

Maybe it was a long way coming; they’d seen the signs and drawn closer. Ultimately becoming so entangled in each others lives that they simply were. They’d made it too easy and its only now that she can see her mistake.

She’d gone too long without being cradled in someone’s arms. A lifeline to hold her in place where she didn’t have to notice her lean figure towering over some faceless man, shrinking into herself just to feel normal. The thing is she wasn’t normal, she’d never asked to be anything but.

He looks at the little leech like she’s the sun and the moon and the ocean meant for him to come clean.

He looks at her like the wolf she is, admires her strength, and envies her speed. If nothing else she was meant to by his side.

So she stays, she runs, she follows orders and when night falls she has the satisfaction of knowing that it’s her that he reaches for. Her body that he’s worshipping. Her name that he spills into the darkness.

Until she realises with a jolt that one day he wont.

The little monster will be old enough soon and one day it’ll be Leah watching on the sidelines. Again.

Seeing the happy couple staring into each others eyes, tangling their fingers together just because they can. Two years down the line, building a relationship and allowing him to work his way under her skin and she’d been stupid enough to do it again.

She put herself in the firing line she’d stupidly tried to fight an imprint.

“Don’t leave” He says standing in the darkness, leaned up against the house.

Leah looks at him with her bag slung over her shoulder. She takes in the lines of his face and the way the moon lights up his eyes.

“Make me stay” She says quietly, the challenge clear in her voice. (Make me stay, she pleads. Do something. Say something. Fight for me if I’m worth it.)
He propels himself forward with one hand reached out skimming across her stomach. She stifles a sigh and looks straight ahead into his eyes.

She already knows.

He cant.

(He wont.)

His mouth opens and closes with a snap, she doesn’t need to be in his head to see what he’s thinking.

She turns with more force than either of them expected and he jumps back in surprise, his forehead is creased with lines of worry and pain etched there for anyone to see. She knows it hurts him.

He never meant to do this to her, to let her heal then burn her again, reopening all the old wounds leaving them blackened and raw.

It leaves a bitter taste in her mouth but she’s glad for it.

She’d rather feel the pain (the regret, the humiliation) than long for his smile and long for his touch.

She walks fast and tall, she refuses to phase- she can’t run, she won’t do it to herself, she’ll never do it again. The one clear thing ringing out in her mind is the heart aching truth that really,

She should’ve known better.
