Days 20-29: I'm Trying,With Some Small Progress

Oct 30, 2015 07:09

I did not take into account how the weather changes of October would mess with crafting progress. It is taking me longer to do even the small crafts, and the process of sewing has been impossible for too many days. On the days I can't sew, I've been working on the Zombie Felties. It's now taking me a couple of days to deal with the small parts, but I am doing something every day. But forgetting to post once I've finished has made this a long post. Oops! Since I have a few pictures, I'll post them at the end.

On the 24th, I finished the outer pockets for the messenger bag project. It took a few days, especially with the large pocket row for the front of the bag. I have a patches from a few bands (and one podcast); I've been playing with placement. I am so nervous about how this bag is going to turn out, I move so slow, trying to be perfect. Which is ridiculous, because I don't make things perfect. I've spent the last couple of days just marking where everything is supposed to placed on the outer flap. Hopefully I will put that together today, unless Halloween preparations interrupt.

On the 25th, I finished the Classic Zombie from the book Zombie Felties. I didn't have all the materials, so I tried some substitutions that didn't quite work. I only found yesterday that I had some white beads that might have worked; I used mini pompoms at the time, and there is no way to thread straight through it as required in the dangling eyeball. My husband loved it and has claimed it to keep the Dead Ducky company.

On the 27th, I realized I had lost a couple of days, and it was the reveal date for the latest IronCraft challenge: None So Black. So, I sewed all day and felt like the walking dead by the end of it. But I made clothes for a couple of little plastic skeletons in the tradition of Dia de los Muertos, but all in black. While black can be a traditional color for men's garments, women's garments are an explosion of color. I even made headgear for them. My husband planned to decorate them with sugar skull designs, but I don't know when that will happen.

On the 29th, I finished the Zombie Bunny from the the Zombie Felties book. This one was difficult for me, with a lot of missed stitches and having to rework a few areas. He's overstuffed, which doesn't help, and the tip of one ear fell off because it was too thin. The kitty and this bunny are the only felties not claimed by someone after I finished. I may make the kitty into a small barrette; my daughter-in-law took the puppy I made earlier in the year to make a barrette for one of her ball-jointed dolls, and it sounded like a good idea. For the bunny, I may glue a magnet to the back of him and let him guard the fabric on my metal shelving. Leaving them laying about just messes them up. And now on to the pictures!
