Jongin curses into his pillow, a bad word he's never said aloud but has heard Taemin use on occasion. He's been saving it inside himself for an opportunity that really deserves it. A situation like this.
jongin is such a sweetheart, i want to steal him away from his situation and tell him to pursue all his dreams. parents crushing their childrens' spirits with expectations are gross

Even inside his gloves his fingers are cold, but Jongin doesn’t shove them in his coat pockets. He doesn’t want to disturb the bus ticket carefully flattened against the lining of his jacket.
this is so gentle and sweet. like jongin

“Hmph.” Her huff is hot against his throat as she leans into his chest to steal the bottle away from his lips. “Glad to know what I’m valued for. And good luck, because you’ll need it. You suck.”
soojung in this *-* she was so biting, but in a charming way, and i could tell from the start she was experiencing her own first love with either taemin or jongin or both, but jongin was so busy with taemin and taemin with himself and neither of them ever notices her

Jongin drains the neck before helping her balance it at her lips.
BONDING

Jongin’s limbs are heavy with an unpleasant buzz, too much caffeine and not enough sleep sapping the tolerance from his blood ‘til he feels irrationally angry about everything.
ahaha so relatable

It shouldn't be that easy, but Taemin always makes it out to be so simple if Jongin brings it up, when he tries to talk with him about it. Jongin isn't sure what they are anymore, what Taemin’s obliging smiles mean these days.
the disconnect is palpable :(( i just want to smush them together. i wish i could figure out what's making taemin distant, if he even realizes he's being distant, if he's afraid to fully give away his heart, and if so, why

“Bringing me here, to watch--!” Taemin’s dry-sobbing into his sleeve, his cufflinks pressing painful points into the curve of his cheek as his mouth darkens a widening circle into his jacket.
my heart HURTS

this was an extremely stressful read, but in a good way. all we ever seemed to glimpse were their missed chances and their goodbyes (and the stress!! of having to perform and the worry of finding enough hours and energy and willpower and bodily strength to do it all), and it built up to this point where i was dying inside when taemin was walking ahead of jongin and jongin felt he'd lose him forever if he couldn't catch up. taemin was like water in his fist. i'm so pleased they found each other in the end, like truly, poor communication kept them apart nine unnecessary years like!!!!! such adorable morons

wow, thank you for taking the time to read and leave such a thoughtful comment! I think they're all sweethearts, even if Soojung is a prickly one. that's totally true, Jongin was so focused on his dreams and on Taemin (and he needed to be) that he was oblivious to some important things. and maybe Soojung was selfish for pushing her needs into his frame of consciousness, but feeling out your limits and boundaries when everything feels so desperate at that age is part of growing up...

your comment about Taemin and why he's being distant...when I read that I realized I never clarified that in my headcanon and I really don't know either. maybe Taemin didn't understand it completely himself. I've always wished there was a map for navigating the twists and turns of people growing together and apart and close again, but alas;; ^^

I'm sorry if it was stressful! and heavy on the angst. I was going for as realistic as I could make it, which is not always a good thing in fiction. Taemin was water in his fist and water under his bridge but Jongin kept moving his foundations downstream (I'm too weak to deny myself happy endings in stories because I want one in my reality, too)

I'll quit rambling at you now but thank you for this comment that made me think things through again!
